Heart Factory Lyrics

We're manufactuing hearts
We've got the perfect thing
The word on the street
We've got the new love machine
Heart with and on/off switch and a remote control
Now you can program how you feel before you walk out the door

Fucks me up
I'm not just made of parts
And you can break right through
This box you put me into

Well you can leave 'em hot and you can leave 'em cold
And you can give 'em what you want and you can get up and go
And you can take your heart out and you can put it back in
I think we found the way to put the fun back in sin

It's not like an organ more like a valentine
It's cherry cherry red and it beats on time
We're trying to reduce the heart on heart crime
You bring your heart to us we'll get it purified

What are you waiting for?

I think this song is about how 'love' is portrayed in the media and how it's portrayal is fake and unrealistic. But I wanted to make a correction on the lyrics. It's not 'fucks me up' I think it's 'Let me out' or 'Let me go'.

That is "Find me out"!!!!!!!! Not "Fucks me up"!!!!!

"Find me out I'm not just made of parts Oh you can break right through this box you put me into "

hahaha I like the "fucks me up" interpretation.

I read that Janet was drumming on an old space heater to get the metallic sound in this song.

I agree with Dejavula, its about breaking hearts.

I especially love the line: "It's not like an organ more like a valentine "

I don't think this song is necessarily about the media's portrayal of love and relationships, which is often very very false. Instead, I get the feeling that this song is about how many people these days are very cold and calculated, especially with relationships. Even now, with recent technologies like cell phones, facebook, etc. that are at our finger tips every day, it is very hard to tell how people truly feel these days. This could be explained with the following lyric: "Heart with an on/off switch and a remote control. Now you can program how you feel before you walk out the door." Plus, the techno logic imagery just screams out the theme of transhumanism (i.e. humans are not good enough naturally, we must improve them with technology...that kind of nonsence.) Overall, I feel that this song is about criticizing modern day relationships + people.
