August Lyrics

August, I'll see you soon under yellow moons
Where I'll gather what's left of you
And August, I'm on your side
Or did I speak too soon?
Now we've crossed the great divide

Someday we'll meet beyond the stars
And it'll be away from here
Someday we'll meet beyond the time and the bars
And it'll be away from here

August, August of last year
Before the leaves disappeared
Told me you were not the one
August, something in your eyes
Or was it that July?
Told me not to take it to heart

Someday we'll meet beyond the stars
And it'll be away from here
Someday we'll meet beyond the limits of who we are
And it'll be away from here

Someday we'll meet beyond the stars
And it'll be away from here
Someday we'll meet beyond the land that you call miles away
Away from here

I'm never really sure if he is talking about the month August, a girl named August, or a mixture. I think he's talking to the month August as if it was a girl, personally.

Maybe he is in love with the month August and wishes they were a person? "Someday, we'll meet beyond the limits of who we are."

There are a lot of ways to interpret this. I think it's best just not to overanalyze it, and just enjoy it.

he was in love with a girl, they probably had a falling out in august, which he explains when he says, "August, August of last year, before the leaves disappeared, told me you were not the one. August, something in your eyes, or was it that July? Told me not to take it to heart."

he hopes that one day he can be with her again, that they can forget whatever happened between the two of them, or "beyond the limits of who we are"

I'd have to agree with LetMenBurnStars, since loving the month of August would explain the first verse... about how he'll see August soon, and gathering up what's left meaning the leaves at the beginning of autumn. Mentioning July also bolsters the month theory...

Silly pants, all of you.

August is near the fall, end of summer, especially when people go back to school, or college, and jobs.

I'm pretty sure it's abouta summer romance, and it ends, all he wishes is for it back, or another one. For the freedom it had.

Am I crazy or does this song remind anyone else of a song in "Grease" ?

I think it probably is -as darkwolf112 said- about a summer hook up, that they fell or was falling in love with, and the person was like, hey, this is just summer love, as he sings: "told me you were not the one... not to take it to heart"

and well, they both took off, and live far from each other, but the guy singing can't get over it, and still has hopes, "Someday we'll meet beyond the stars And it'll be away from here Someday we'll meet beyond the land that you call miles away Away from here"

but the truth is, he probably won't ever see them again.. , and maybe what he's longing for, is the feeling of meeting and being with someone who's truly amazing, and not a person in particular..
