Ballad For My One True Love Lyrics

Sleeping in a cherry tree
High above a monastery
Where the bells are ringing slow
To say farewell when hours go

And all the while I'm dreaming of
The ballad for my one true love
Searching for the perfect way to say:
"I love you, sweetheart
This is my dream come true,"

And God bless the babies
That sleep in you
God bless the babies
That sleep in you

Sleeping in a motel room
Underneath a silver moon
With the windows open wide
I can hear the stars go by

And all the while I'm dreaming of
The ballad for my one true love
Searching for the perfect way to say:
"I love you, sweetheart
This is my dream come true,"

And God bless the babies
That sleep in you
God bless the babies
That sleep in you

this song is amazing...its sweet and simple and the guitar is awesome. i think the part about the babies that sleep in you would be more like the babies that she hasn't had yet...not necessarily that she is pregnant. because the word "sleep" could represent the fact that they are yet to be conceived...idk...just a thought.

such a soothing song and its awesome to think about...a guy thinking of you and what hes gonna say and how to say i love like nobody else can. its just a bewildering thing to think about. i wonder if guys actually think about this stuff.... nah.

great song... one of my favorites... I agree with littlewing about the baby part although he does have a son. He might have written this song while his wife was pregnant with his son.

Yeah I'm going to say sleep, as in dormant or not yet conceived. Of course they're not babies until male/female get together, but that's beside the point...

... He's singing about his future with his one true love. He hasn't found her yet, but he dreams of the day when he does and what his life will be like... Their children, and their life together, their future, their grandchildren and all other things they will create all as a result of his finding his one true love.

That's my opinion anyway. :)

There's something so deeply touching about the line "god bless the babies that sleep in you" ... it brings about this amazing sense of possiblity that can exist in life. Really, when you think about it, as a woman, the children you are capable of bearing are infinite. A rocket scientist, a musician, a painter, a lawyer, a doll maker... someone who will touch someone's heart in a way that was never thought possible before... it's an amazing point to ponder.

The idea of a man laying about pondering writing a ballad for someone he loves so deeply that he thinks about the children she could possibly bring into the world...there's nothing sweeter than that sentiment, to me. A truly gorgeous song in all ways.

The line "God bless the babies that sleep in you," could very well be literal. Babies in the womb have sleep and wake cycles just like we do. Also, Mason is married and has two sons, so it's very possible he's singing to his pregnant wife.

The figurative makes sense as well, though, referring to his children yet to be conceived. I guess the questions are: when did he write the song, and how old are his kids? ;)
