Winter Lyrics

And it sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain't been blowin' from the south
It's sure been a cold, cold winter
And a lotta love is all burned out

It sure been a hard, hard winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And I hope it's gonna be a long, hot summer
And a lotta love will be burnin' bright

And I wish I been out in California
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round

It sure been a cold, cold winter
My feet been draggin' 'cross the ground
And the fields has all been brown and fallow
And the springtime take a long way around

Yeah, and I wish I been out in Stone Canyon
When the lights on all the Christmas trees went out
But I been burnin' my bell, book and candle
And the restoration plays have all gone 'round

Sometimes I think about you, baby
Sometimes I cry about you
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna keep you warm
Sometimes I wanna wrap my coat around you
Sometimes I wanna but I can't afford you

Underrated stones song, dismal and hopeful at the same time. Correction on the lyrics: "And a lotta love" should be "And the light of love".

This is a great song for a very cold and lonely night thinking of past loves

I can't believe I'm the first to comment on this song. It's easily the best thing off Goats Head Soup (not that that says much). No Keith Richards because of his heroin addiction, so Mick Jagger plays rhythm guitar and Mick Taylor plays an amazing lead. Add tearjerking lyrics and a beautiful string section and you have one of the all time great Stones ballads.

funnily enough, i find myself singing this to myself over the winter period. i dont find it depressing...micks vocals sound so good on this track. one of my favourites

One of their best ever. Those lonely at the holidays can relate, but I find it comforting, not depressing.

one of their best songs...so emotional! Mick Taylor's lead guitar lines are so plaintive, majestic and wistful.

Man i suffer from a great deal of seasonal depression, this song does do a great job cheering me up through the shitty Canadian winter months.

Stones FOREVER!

This is a fantastic song, lots of imagery here. I can't believe the dislike for Goats Head Soup that I see on this website. You guys call yourself Stones fans? Laughable. Go listen to Ruby Tuesday and 19th Nervous Breakdown- maybe that's more your style.

they never claimed to be fans. i really like this song. it's not depressing at all. my friend recently gave me every single rolling stones album up to '79 (not much of an eighties fan) and i came across this song. lovely. i was baked as fuck, so that might have had something to do with it...

Great song obviously. Does anyone know? ......I thought I had read somewhere that the song was about a prostitute and that the male subject in the song was in love with her and wanted to be with and take care of her. Unfortunately - he wasn't able to afford her. I may very well be wrong about this. Does anyone else out there remember reading anything similar?

**** Also if you like this song, check out Mick Taylor and Carla Olson's rendition off the album "Too hot for snakes". Beautiful version as well.
