Moonlight Mile Lyrics
When the wind blows and the rain feels cold
with a head full of snow
with a head full of snow
In the window there's a face you know
Don't the night pass slow
Don't the night pass slow
The sound of strangers sending nothing to my mind
Just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be lying by your side
But I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Made a rag pile of my shiny clothes
Gonna warm my bones,
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow,
Let the air waves flow
For I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
Just another mad mad day on the road
My dreams are fading down the railway line
I'm just about a moonlight mile down the road
I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
There I go now coming home now baby
Yeah, there I go now coming home now baby
Yeah, I'm coming home 'cause
I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
On down the road, down the road
with a head full of snow
with a head full of snow
In the window there's a face you know
Don't the night pass slow
Don't the night pass slow
Just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be lying by your side
But I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Gonna warm my bones,
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow,
Let the air waves flow
For I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
Just another mad mad day on the road
My dreams are fading down the railway line
I'm just about a moonlight mile down the road
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
There I go now coming home now baby
Yeah, there I go now coming home now baby
Yeah, I'm coming home 'cause
On down the road, down the road

A lovely rendering by Mick, of the road, the loneliness of the road. The emptiness of "strangers sending nothing to my mind". Feeling cold and hollow and coked-out, tossing aside the shiny stage clothes for something warm, riding on a tour bus in the middle of nowhere, not even a radio signal to keep you company. Yearning for the comfort of your woman and your bed and feeling very far away.
Terrific song, terrific record - one of the Stones' finest in both regards.
I completely agree with your interpretation. This is one of those songs that gives you fairly clear and distinct lyrics, which lead down one very specific path. It's about life on the road. "Just another mad mad day on the road....."

oh dear gawd this song is incredible! :-) its so sweet!
Regarding Altamont... Meredith did not have a weapon. But racial tensions were so raw in America that the CIA forced the Stones to re-shoot the entire thing at the film studio where the moon walk was filmed earlier that year (1969). In the clip where you see Meredith's gun, there are no more 50 people shown. You think it's a concert with 250,000 people? Think again. There aren't even 100 people shown in the entire segment. Some researchers have even identified a few people in the fake Stones film who were photographed in Dealey Plaza on the day Kennedy was killed. Wake up people.

Often thought to be about a night time cocaine session. Midnight Mile being slang for a line of coke “With a head full of snow” Mick Jagger in an interview with the Wall Street Journal dispelled those assumptions. Mick Said is was inspired by nothing more than the boredom and loneliness he felt traveling as a touring musician.
The way I like to interpret it is that the song is about intense feelings of loneliness and longing to be home with the one you love. However it conveys a sense of hope that he is headed the right way and they will be reunited eventually. “I’ve got silence on the radio, let the airwaves flow” portrays the feeling of not being in contact and being out of sync with each other but wanting to resume communication.
That nothing is exciting and no one else he cares about. That he is just merely existing and counting the days until they can be together. That as crazy at things get, having the one person who makes sense ultimately makes everything okay. “Just another mad, mad day on the road. I am just living to be lying by your side”
“I’m hiding baby and I’m dreaming. I’m riding down your moonlight mile” About master-bating while thinking about your lover. Seriously romantic.
what a rad song!
Favorite Line. "I Am Just Living To Be Lying By Your Side, But I'm Just About A Moonlight Mile On Down The Road"
i have always imagined that mick or keith wrote the lyrics in their hotel room right after altamont. probably not true but who knows...
what happened at altomont? this is a great song. it really is. it makes me sad though.
i think its about how someones life can be so crazy and confusing but they have this one person that they love and knows that they're the only thing that makes sense to them
i think this song is so romantic... you are seperated from this person but your love for them keeps you going... too bad long distance relationships cant be this glamorous all the time ;)
