Factory Girl Lyrics

Waiting for a girl who's got curlers in her hair
Waiting for a girl she has no money anywhere
We get buses everywhere
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who weares scarves instead of hat
Her zipper's broken down the back
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she gets me into fights
Waiting for a girl we get drunk on friday nights
She's a sight for sore eyes
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she's got stains all down her dress
Waiting for a girl and my feet are getting wet
She ain't come out yet
Waiting for a factory girl

Edie Sedgwick.

Fools

@carmenmmp I can see that actually

@bowiereedthing I really don’t think so. Factory Girl pairs with Dear Doctor on beggars Banquet, on the opposite side, two country-blues numbers, acoustic, not unlike No Expectations...BB was a return to their Blues roots, after Their Satanic Majesties’ Request’s psychedelia. “Factory Girl” was something not applied to Edie S until the film with Sienna Miller. Plus, I’m not sure how much the Stones actually knew Edie.

@bowiereedthing Edie Sedgwick was a Dylan-Reed thing/rivalry, nothing to do with the Stones. AFAIK anyway.

God knows where you lot are getting the American vibe from, I always thought it had more of an Irish feel to it with the fiddle and the melody.

It's a love song. In my mind, it's a couple of poor kids in industrial London, and the guy found a girl he's willing to wait in the rain for...a sight for sore eyes. wouldn't mind a bit of that myself... ha ha. definitely kick ass

About being in love with a girl who is who she is. She isn't trying to be anything that she isn't and so sortof "perfection found in inperfections".

Call a female "simple and frumpy" and see how far you'll get :) Give me sweats and no makeup and I'm a happy camper.

Well said. I never thought of it like that. I just figured it's about wanting a down-to-earth type to love and whose company to enjoy. It's a comparison between the fast life girls with their makeup and stylish clothing and someone who's 'simple' in a good way.

I thought Warhol's factory too, knees too fat makes me think maybe Holly Woodlawn or Brigid Berlin?

@indierod Personally don't think there was any particular female in mind. I think it was more about the song than someone, but I didn't write it and haven't looked for what Jagger or Richards may have said about the inspiration so I don't know.

As for the Irish/American thing, it's definitely got an Appalachia feel to it, and Appalachian music having derived primarily from the British Isles, it's not surprising that it could also have an Irish feel. With those traditional Irish instruments conga and tabla.

Waiting for a girl who looks just like the others??

I find it amazing that a 24 year old British 'lad' could have such a great understanding of rural American life. He obviously learned it from old blues but my God what a great job of putting it all together to form his own songs.

He's not A Redneck, my dad can sound just like him on this song, (me too). But I'm not a redneck.
