| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Happy When It Rains Lyrics

"But your lips spoke gold and honey
That's why I'm happy when it rains"
I get a feeling that he's saying that our most meaningful words can transcend our strangest situations.
Great tune! |

I love imagining Margo looking all southern in a dingy dress singing the part "To the north there is a prison..." swaying while the rest of the band walk behind her blowing tubas and trombones. if only i directed videos! |

| The Cowboy Junkies – The last spike Lyrics
| 7 years ago
|
"That old brick building
Still stands like a cenotaph
To a vision lost and buried in
A very distant past"
These lyrics are terribly sad in that they remind of a more prosperous time and lives lived not knowing of a future cheapening and changing. It gives a real melancholic feel and hits home with all the things and people that made up my past slowly disappearing. |

Great B-side to "Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning"
one of many gems of early Junkies.
It seems to me to be about the divide of safety (being in a domestic relationship) and danger (living for excitement) cleverly written in folk music terms.. |

| Stars – Fixed Lyrics

This one I think goes along with ghostly theme of the album
I see it that she's a murder victim and it was her fate to be targeted by this killer
(Wonder if I'm fixed to cut)
Killers victims are now ghosts that now haunts him keeping him crazy
(We are the hunger that keeps you climbing walls)
Amy asks "is it your fault" many think abuse, evil or abandonment can warp one to kill
Fantastic song! |

This song fits so well with the theme of Mellon Collie-this song reminds me a bit of Voice Of The Beehive's"I'm Shooting Cupid" the lyrics and talking in that one too |

one of my fave REM as well-i think it lightly pokes fun at people who jump on the bandwagon of what is popular.I assume the line "the weather may forget us" is about being a fairweather fan. |

silasbrock,I agree -I always thought about migrant workers being taken advantage of,"haloed in whitewash"is pretty harsh (but great) depiction of what I thought could be the "religious" farm boss. |

I love hearing Belinda talking about a "red button" falling from her mouth-either shes ripping real buttons off his clothes with her teeth-or it the female part of the anatomy best know as the "man in the boat" either way, breath taking imagery. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Springfield, or Bobby Got a Shadfly Caught in His Hair Lyrics

I think the line "if my father took his life for the national plan" was an allusion to dying in a war -he had volunteered to join.living on lake Erie,I can tell you,Shadflys aka Mayflys get all over every building by the thousands-walking in a doorway covered with them assures you a fate similar to Bobby's-someone please tell me how this great song misses the cut on the Illinoise album.mystery! |

song is about the Beautiful People=Sharon Tate,Jay Sebring,Abigail Folger, and all the hollywood people the Mansons killed in August of 1969- there is a distorted sample of Tex Watson of "the family" testifying at his trial in this song-good thing he has a record deal-because he would be out thrill killing if he didn't have that outlet.full of hate.yech! |

| Asobi Seksu – Nefi + Girly Lyrics

|
great song by an excellent band-seems to me she's singing about tring not to care so much-which she obviously does- about things she reads in the news and probably 2 cats she must have been really attached to,that had died.
"awaiting an audience" line i think that being in a band is her escape from thinking about these things. |

| Sufjan Stevens – The Avalanche Lyrics
|
could Sufjan be talking about the drinking game called Avalanche? where one person shouts "floor" and everyone has to point to the floor -last one to do so drinks
"I was on the avalanche
And I had found my match
I was on the floor"
thing is ,lyrics sound more historic than contemporary |
