Dancing with Mr. D Lyrics
Down in the graveyard where we have our tryst
The air smells sweet, the air smells sick
He never smiles, his mouth merely twists
The breath in my lungs feels clinging and thick
But I know his name, he's called Mister D
And one of these days he's gonna set you free
Human skulls is hangin' right 'round his neck
The palms of my hands is clammy and wet
Lord, I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', Lord, keep your hand off me
Dancin' with Mister D., with Mister D., with Mister D
Will it be poison put in my glass
Will it be slow or will it be fast
The bite of a snake, the sting of a spider
A drink of Belladonna on a Toussaint night
Hiding in a corner in New York City
Lookin' down a forty four in West Virginia
I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', Lord, keep your hand off me
Dancin' with Mister D., with Mister D., with Mister D
One night I was dancin' with a lady in black
Wearin' black silk gloves and a black silk hat
She looked at me longin' with black velvet eyes
She gazed at me strange all cunning and wise
Then I saw the flesh just fall off her bones
The eyes in her skull was burning like coals
Lord, have mercy, fire and brimstone
I was dancin' with Mistress D.
Lord, I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin'
The air smells sweet, the air smells sick
He never smiles, his mouth merely twists
The breath in my lungs feels clinging and thick
But I know his name, he's called Mister D
And one of these days he's gonna set you free

Yes. Mr. D is death, in this context.
Mr. D.....David Bowie
Mistress D.....Angela Bowie
@jbalan lol love this comment!!

Obviously death, I don't understand where you get the drugs or Davids och dicks from?
this seems like a song about masturbation, Mr. D?
Haha--good one. Knowing Jagger it certainly could be about masturbation. More likely it's him still trying to make people wonder if he's a demon.
I think this song is about the Devil (Mr. D) and death. Possibly inspired by the Stones involvement in voodoo and black magic. Once the character in the song dies he feels he'll be with Mr/Mistress D. and dancing free.
Supposed t be a sequel to S.F.T.D, but taken less seriously.
Dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight
neat thought JBALAN , but wouldn't it be Mistress B not Mr. d or Mistress d?
another stab at the occult. . . . After sympathy it all comes up lame, but actually a whale of a sound.
the production of G Soup is poor. If they took the tapes and redid the album it would shine with all the great stones work of the era
i think its about drugs.
"Mister D" sounds like a street name for a drug...like dopamine or Depakote.
but most likely just about the Devil.
@THe_Atomic_Punk I believe Dopamine is a naturally occuring chemical in the brain, alongside Seratonin.

@irishman44 oh my goodness, so I posted this comment seven years ago when I was much younger. HA. You are correct- dopamine is the chemical in the brain that produces happiness. Drugs can trigger dopamine to flood the brain, producing euphoria and sometimes leading to addiction. Thank goodness I've taken a lot more classes in psychology since then- how funny I thought it was a street drug. Thanks for commenting back and bringing back this funny memory :)
