The Air Is Getting Slippery Lyrics
The dogs are barking merrily as Jerry sits on high If you've studied your Floyd property, you'd know that pigs could fly Now if you want an encore you might hear it is luck But me, I'd rather play Residents, 'cause I don't give a...
this part at least is about their nagging fans who expect them to play certain songs, i.e. shouting out songs to play during their live show. he's basically just telling them he doesn't give a fuck. "Now if you want an encore you might hear it is luck" it's actually "Now if you want an encore you might hear 'Is it Luck?'" as in their song, "Is It Luck?" which, by the way, is a great song.
I get the impression that when he mentions an irregular heartbeat and stuff that he isn't thinking straight, and a bit flustered from the heat. That's why he doesn't give a fuck (e.g. what people want to hear live) as has been mentioned.
However he also thinks about a lot of different aspects of his life and others' that he also refers to in other Primus songs' lyrics (past and future for this song written in '93 e.g. the line about Fats is almost identical to a line in 2003's My Friend Fats, 'pigs could fly' brings to mind my theory for Southbound Pachyderm, meth/tweek.) as well as their influences (e.g. Residents).
Also the fact he never actually says 'fuck' draws attention to it, the only time he's meant to say it in the lyrics is at the end when the word has a different meaning to elsewhere in the song, possibly referring to how songs like Groundhog's Day are full of metaphors.
So I think it refers to how they create music and gig setlists. Each verse refers to a different one of these meanings.
Yeah, I totally agree with that chiefhky29, though I stand by everything else I said! It refers to lots of their songs as a reference to their varying setlists and the audience's anticipation of his singing about whatever Primus-y character (e.g. Fats, Jerry), though he really just wants to play Residents covers!
'I'm here to make a buck' shows that he has to play to the audience, and that it is about a live performance.
He doesn't actually say "fuck" at the end.
I don't really know the true meaning behind this song.
The second verse refers to Jerry Garcia ("Jerry sits on high"), Pink Floyd, and the Residents, an awesome band that Primus has covered (and even performed with!) on occasion.
holy shit, primus covered residents? what song??
holy shit, primus covered residents? what song??
wasn't it hello skinny and constantinople or something.
wasn't it hello skinny and constantinople or something.
What does it actually mean though?
Drugs.
yeah its hard hes just talking bout shit in life u no like with the encore he deosnt give a fuck cuz there little cnotnoise kids who wont to here one song but he would rather play a residents song and i think he is getting a bit pissed of when he goes if u carnt take the heat somthing reather ur a fuck our somthing so its a hard one.
I'd say he we're looking to get laid...
"if you studied you floyd property youd now that pigs could fly"
bauds said that this refers to southbound pachyderm... im pretty sure its a clear and straight u refrence to pink floyd. flying pigs is one of their trademarks. the song as a whole is probly referring to playing live.
