I had a friend that took a belt,
Took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway
Of the apartment where he lived
His woman and his little bro
Came home from the grocery store
Only to find him dangling
In the apartment where he lived
I had a friend who shaved his head
Put his Doctor Martins on
And drew such wonderous pictures
In the apartment where he lived
He praised my creativity,
Though he spoke sarcastically
Oh, the conversations
In the apartment where he lived
I had a friend that took a belt,
Took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway
Of the apartment where he lived
Rock, she thought him spiteful;
Ler, he thought him pitiful
Me, I've never been back to the apartment
where he lived
Took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway
Of the apartment where he lived
His woman and his little bro
Came home from the grocery store
Only to find him dangling
In the apartment where he lived
I had a friend who shaved his head
Put his Doctor Martins on
And drew such wonderous pictures
In the apartment where he lived
He praised my creativity,
Though he spoke sarcastically
Oh, the conversations
In the apartment where he lived
I had a friend that took a belt,
Took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway
Of the apartment where he lived
Rock, she thought him spiteful;
Ler, he thought him pitiful
Me, I've never been back to the apartment
where he lived

I'm pretty sure Bob is the guy who took a belt and hung himself.
Funny about the wedding song in the above post!!!
Anyway, it's about a guy who killed himself. I do not believe the guy with the shaved head and Docs is a racist though, just because of Les's style if the guy was a skinhead he would have elaborated a little bit more on that. Im thinking this guy with the docs is more of a Mod then anything, but not a racist.
in a interview Les said that Bob was the boyfriend of a girl who was a friend of the group in its early days. He also briefly stated that it was most probably a case of auto-erotic asphyxiation due to details not menchined in the lyrics.
If I were to get Married Id probally use this song as my Wedding Song!!!!
simply put its about a friend of les's who was an artist, and just interesting dude suddenly commiting suicide
this song would be alot more depressing if the lyrics weren't half incomprehensible. Claypool rules :D
This song is pretty self-explanitory. Although, I'm not quite sure about the second verse about the man who shaved his head. Anyone willing to help?
It could very well be a facist or it could be a goth/punk guy. All of the goth and punk kids I know like to draw, write poets and stories, and read alot of fantasy stuff. And of course goth kids believe the world is so cold and their lives are nothing but pain so they commit suicide (im not saying all do but some). Or if you just drop the labels it could just be a depressed guy who finds comfort in his art, is dulled from life so, hence the sacastic remarks, and eventually takes his life. Primus' stuff is usually straight up like that. But damn can Claypool rock.
Which verse refers to "Bob" and who is he? (He is obviously not Bob Cock.
I think he used Bob the same way lots of other artist use John or Johnny. It's a common name, not a specific person.
