Whipping Boy Lyrics
Since then I never feel helpless, recess, this mess if you do
And I find that even time well spent gets bent if you need it to
And we do
Well by now I?ve showed you how much I believe in the here and now and I wish that you knew
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy
You spilled your purse onto my bed
Searching for something for your head
Since then you never come clean I mean
You wish you only could
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy
I can get up??
And I find that even time well spent gets bent if you need it to
And we do
And we do
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy
And I find that even time well spent gets bent if you need it to
And we do
Well by now I?ve showed you how much I believe in the here and now and I wish that you knew
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy
Searching for something for your head
Since then you never come clean I mean
You wish you only could
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy
And we do
And we do
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
Lay all you want on me
I?ll be your whipping boy

this song is soo simple, yet the lyrics are quite haunting. it's just beautiful and deserved to have a comment.
I agree with obsessed angel...it seems as though this song has been overlooked for some reason and it really is a great song. just based on the lyrics "By now ive shown you how much i believe in the here and now...lay all you want on me, i'll be your whipping boy," i take that to mean that "we've been here before and ive proven that I can take all that you can dish out." Maybe i see it as a bit of a love(/pain) song because im so in love with love...I can't remember who said it but i agree with whoever said that 'Drops of Jupiter' is a great breakup cd...
He's in love with this girl, and he believes in it and wants to make it work, and he'll take all the pain and hurt she dishes out just because he loves her. she can abuse him all she wants but he wont turn away
I agree that he's in love with the woman and he really believes in her and their relationship, but I think he's also sort of given up hope that she'll ever treat him right. It's almost as if he's a sucker for punishment so he's willing to take whatever she dishes out simply because it means he won't have to risk losing the one he loves. It's tragic. So I think Penkyismyhero has it right.
So in the end it seems as if he's settling for being mistreated because it's preferrable to the pain of losing her. He's kind of tossing his arms in the air and surrendering; basically saying "Do as you will to me as long I don't have to lose you."
I'm not entirely sure why but to me this song seems to be about drug addiction. It sounds like he and a girl/his girlfriend started out messing around with stuff ("even time well spent gets bent...") and at some point she gets in over her head ("since then you never come clean...") and he's trying to be there for her and he's saying hit me with the worst of it, i'll still be there to help you out of this ("lay all you want on me...").
I think that this song shows his undying devotion to his love. He is telling them, don't worry about anything, just lay it all on me, I will take the whipping for you.
I love this song so much. The repetition of "lay all you want on me" is powerful. They are in a relationship, possibly on the verge of break-up, and he's telling her that he will take on every painful emotion she's feeling, he will do anything for her. I'm not describing it right. The song says it all.
Oh Pat, I love you. I understand that this isn't really a meaning, but I have to say it. This song is so incredible. Ever since it was released it's always been one of if not my favorite songs by Train. They are such a great band!
