Where Boys Fear to Tread Lyrics

candy cane walks down
to build a bonfire, to break my fall
my baby, my sweet thing
just maybe we could lose ourselves this time
king of the horseflies, dark prince of death
his tragic forces are heaven sent
in sweet things, in a lovers breath
in knowing this was meant to be the last
a go-go-kids, a go-go-style
a suck suck kiss, a suck suck smile
as always, in youn gneed
a velied promise to never die
on dead highways, her black beauties roam
for june angels, so far from home
for a love lost, a faded picture
to tread lightning, to ink the lavender skies
so get on the bomb
get back where you belong

It's weird how none of these lyrics make any goddamn sense, yet I relate to it so easily.

I'm probably wrong about this, but I always thought this song was about a nightmare. Whenever you are having a bad dream, you usually wake up right before you die, hence the lines, "Get on the bomb/get back where you belong." This kind of makes sense for the title, as small children aren't exactly fans of nightmanres.

I definitely agree with everyone that said it's about teenagers, the unexperienced candy canes that walk down to build a bonfire and have some fun. I always got the vibe that this was about youths in a dangerous land. Like a fairy tale where the kids sneak out after night and get lost in a land of horseflies.

here we go. all i was reading was drug influence in the comments -_- the whole album is about teenagers and how difficult it is to be so powerless, and not being able to do anything about it.

This song is about marriage. Getting married. Marriage is a commitment where boys fear to tread. Billy corgan writes a lot about sex. Anal sex too. A candy cane is a stick, down. a bonfire is a burning pile of sticks. I am pretty sure Billy is married to the love of his life June. She breaks his fall. especially his candy cane fall. she is his baby, his sweet thing. I am sure they have lost there selves together a few times. He is her king of horseflies, her dark prince. A dark prince and king of horse flies are tragic, but to her are heaven sent. sweet things, like a breath shared between them. A wedding kiss, you cheer on these marrying kids, they are dressed in style. they suck a sweet kiss and smile. because you should be smiling after your wedding kiss, or it is not right. She makes a veiled promise, an oath. an oath should never die. if she goes away, if the love is lost. the marriage a faded picture. If June is far from him, from home. the dark prince of death should chase her, tread lightning down those dead highways. turn the sunset into night and get her back to where she belongs. on his candy cane, on his bomb. that is where she belongs. That is the commitment of marriage. to stay together even in the darkness. In the hard times, even down dead highways. It is a commitment only men can truely make, a place boys fear to tread.
