I know she said, it's alright
You can make it up next time
I know she knows, it's not right
There ain't no use in lying
Maybe she thinks I know something
Maybe, maybe she thinks it's fine
Maybe she knows something I don't
I'm so, I'm so tired, I'm so tired of trying

It seems to me that maybe
It pretty much always means, no
So don't tell me, you might just let it go
And often times we're lazy
It seems to stand in my way
'Cause no one, no not, no one
Likes to be let down

I know she loves the sunrise
No longer sees it with her sleeping eyes
And I know that when she said, she's gonna try
Well, it might not work because of other ties and
I know she usually has some other ties
And I wouldn't wanna break 'em, nah, I wouldn't wanna break 'em
Maybe she'll help me to untie this, but
Until then well, I'm gonna have to lie to her

It seems to me that maybe
It pretty much always means, no
So don't tell me, you might just let it go
And often times we're lazy
It seems to stand in my way
'Cause no one, no not, no one
Likes to be let down
It seems to me that maybe
It pretty much always means, no
So don't tell me, you might just let it go

The harder that you try baby, the further you'll fall
Even with all the money in the whole wide world
Please, please, please don't pass me
Please, please, please don't pass me
Please, please, please don't pass me by

Everything you know about me now, baby you gonna have to change
You goin' to call it, by a brand new name
Please, please, please don't drag me
Please, please, please don't drag me
Please, please, please don't drag me down

Just like your tree, down by the water, baby I shall not move
Even after all the silly things you do
Please, please, please don't drag me
Please, please, please don't drag me
Please, please, please don't drag me down

This song means alot to me, because it reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. It's like two people try to get back together, but things just never seem to work out, and there's always something holding them from being together. When things seem like they're ok, they're really not, only because sometimes things just aren't meant to be. It's just such a great song, and I love it. Maybe I'm wrong about what it means, but no matter what, it still means alot to me

I think the entire song is about a guy trying to go out with this girl but shes just one of those girls tat always gives you those shady answers and seems really busy. But you like her so muh even when you get tired of it happening over and over again its like your still willing to ask again.

I think this song is about trying to get back together or forgiving someone in a relationship. It seems that he made a mistake in the relationship, which she says is fine

"I know she said it's alright But you can make it up next time".

But in reality, when he talks to her about getting back together or forgiving him she always tells him maybe, and he is realizing that she simply can't let go of whatever he did and he's getting tired of it:

"It seems to me that maybe It pretty much always means no So don't tell me you might just let it go"

Hmm.. In the version I have-- the last three stanzas are not in it.. Is that right?.. doesnt seem like they should be a part of the lyrics.

As for the meaning of the song.. Like grafetepymp, i think it's about a relationship that's not working out. Whether they're actually together and things arent working.. or whether she's with someone else and things arent working for him-- i'm not sure.

The lines, "I'm so, I'm so tired, I'm so tired of trying" and "It seems to me that maybe It pretty much always means no"-- Makes me think that he's after her.. hence his trying-- but she doesnt really seem too interested. so she says, 'maybe'

But then he says, "oftentimes we're lazy--it seems to stand in my way"-- and that makes me think that they're having problems-- but they're either having a hard time working it out or they dont want to work it out-- and instead of confronting them and risk getting hurt, they just leave it alone. ("Cause no one no not no one Likes to be let down")

Or.. I could be completely off the mark, and have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

    (sorry bout the lengthy comment)

yeah this song is a hard one.
We can control when but just make sure you know when is not too late. Make sure its before the other person decides they are done, sick of waiting tired of giving. She wants them to be together in the end, but she can’t do that to herself…keep loving him even though hes shutting her out.

Knowing he’s not loving her right, not really believing in her, like why shouldn’t she just give up, move on?

I don’t think its fair to keep giving in that circumstance. And I don’t think I agree that putting yourself out there like that and getting locked out makes you stronger. I just think it makes you colder…but shes gonna anyway because she wants them to be together.

Hockyjocky- Everything is good now, my cars totaled which sucks but im not that hurt…just shaken up a bit. It wasn’t my fault, a 15 year old driver with out a license or insurance darted out in front of me…T’d him…frustrating cuz now I don’t have a car for a while.

Like what everyone else is saying this song is obviously about a relationship on the rocks.

The first verse suggest that he's let her down and instead of try to make it right she's just brushing it off telling him to "make it up next time". From speculation I think that he feels that since she's not making a big deal of it she may be keeping something from him ("maybe she thinks I know something, maybe maybe she thinks it's fine"). He's letting his imagination run. And then at the end of the first verse he's frustrated for over thinking it so he says "I'm so tired of trying". In the chorus he's stating what he feels: "It seems to me that maybe pretty much always means no". So from him letting her down, as touched on in the first verse, she said she "might just let it go". He is replacing maybe with its other form MIGHT in other words he thinks she's saying that she might let it go so she won't hurt his feeling but really she's not letting it go...she's just saying she might. They're lazy because they won't put the energy into talking about it and instead are just brushing it off "'cause no one likes to be let down" so it's easier that way. In the second verse he starts off by showing that he does care for her by noticing little things she likes such as "the sunrise". She says she wants to "try" and make their relationship work but he realizes that even though she will try she has some "other ties" (this could be family, friends, work, ex's...not sure). Then he shows he cares for her again by saying he doesn't want to break those ties he just wants to help her untie them, so he wants to help her and be a part of all aspects of her life. Then he finishes off this verse by acknowledging that she's not ready for that yet so while he waits it out he's going to have to lie about everything being fine as he feels she is also lying about this as shown in the first verse. The ending 3 verses I'm not entirely sure about but I feel the jist of them is that he wants to make it work and that even with anything she does, and if she falls, he'll be there and he doesn't want her to give up on him.

Sorry that's so long, I hope it helps someone out. This is an amazing song I'm sure lots of people can relate to. I love Jack Johnson.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
