So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Brainstorm, take me away from the norm
I got to tell you something
This phenomenon, I had to put it in a song
And it goes like
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You want to know what brings me here, oh
You glide through my head, blind to fear
And I know why
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You live too far away
Your voice rings like a bell anyway
Don't give up your independence
Unless it feels so right
Nothing good comes easily
Sometimes you've got to fight
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You launched a thousand ships in my heart, so easy
Still it's fine from afar
And you know that
Whoa
Brainstorm, take me away from the norm
Whoa
I got to tell you something
I got to tell you something
This phenomenon, I had to put it in a song
And it goes like
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You want to know what brings me here, oh
You glide through my head, blind to fear
And I know why
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You live too far away
Your voice rings like a bell anyway
Don't give up your independence
Unless it feels so right
Nothing good comes easily
Sometimes you've got to fight
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
Whoa, shades of gold display naturally
You launched a thousand ships in my heart, so easy
Still it's fine from afar
And you know that
Whoa
Brainstorm, take me away from the norm
Whoa
I got to tell you something

Christ this is friggin horrible, way too many posts from girls sayin "i dont many of 311's other songs" yeah same chicks that end up liking only Amber and Ill Be Here A While. This song doesnt show the true 311 at all. Songs like this piss me off, its just like what System of a Down does, they release certain songs that the public listens to, you know that stuff thats on the mix stations that ur parents may think hey maybe this band isnt that bad. Then u listen to the cd and you see that, that one song is totally isolated from the others. And if beutiful disaster ever comes back to read this, read what i said dickhead, i said theres no need to try an analyze this song cuz its about as deep as a puddle. Ok he likes a girl there u have it. I know the friggin meaning of the site thank you wise ass. Girls please do me a favor don't buy the cd dont go to the concert leave 311 alone to its real fans. Oh yes and wtf is the deal with 311 playing with jay z and de la sol. Theres a ticket im NOT buying. What a crowd thatll be, the crowd shifts and all the rap fans are gonna start stabbing cuz u stepped on their damn puma. I hope i offended many of you.
