This song is about being with a special someone who you do many things with, reflecting on good times. The dog is Billy I think, and he represents their strength. He always knows where to go from here, and so do they. The chorus puts images of a couple in bed, one watching the other sleep. He was dumb once but it will all pass, she takes out her anger by walking the dog.
Just another rad song from everyone's favorite 311.
You pretty much hit it on the nose, but Billie is Billie Holiday. He says "Holiday on the radio", which is her. Adds to the relaxed notion of the song. Good to see other people appreciate this song.

well, will you wake up to me?
I didn't know who this was untill my b/f said something. Now he gets mad at me for playing it to much! LOL :)
Nick wrote this song about his ex-girlfriend. I heard him say that in a Q&A session on our local radio station before a show.
in response to hednirvana, who posted a long time ago...6/30/02...billy is not the dog. billy is billy holiday. a female old skool singer, back in the record days. the lyric is ...HOLIDAY ON THE RADIOOOOO, BILLY KNOW THAT IS THE WAY TO GO. THE WAY TO GOOOOOO...
this song is beautiful...make me feel all calm...they are an exceptional band and this is one of their best songs in my opinion
Nick Hexum writes really good lyrics, this songs a great example. 311 always put me in a good mood. =)
god i love this song. 311 is the best band ever.
my favorite song by my favorite band. anyone thats been in a relationship & wondered if that other person felt like they do knows what this song is about. does it get any more simplified than "will you wake up to me?" The song always makes me feel good.
i think its about a couple who really likes eachother but he thinks he likes her more then she likes him.... hes got a lot of plans for their relationship and hes just hoping shes just as enthusiastic and feels the same. ONE OF MY FAV PARTS is at the end when he sings... "and of course well bring the dog..." AWWWWW. nick hexum
