You can hear the baby bones
Crack beneath her wheels
Tears of Avalon
Streak silent down her shield
High crimes and misdemeanors
Unfortunate attacks
Will leave you standing nameless
While she's turning black

Vanity stands naked at my door
Vanity cries, why?

Eleanor, you've lost me
In a haze of wine and cocaine
Gone out and cost me
Everything I blame
Broadcast in TV detail
To call their own stories
As I try to recapture
Our best in former glories

Vanity stands naked at my door
Vanity cries, why?
Vanity wants everything and more
Vanity must die

She swears she'll turn around
Turn around for good
She swears she'll turn around
Turn around for sure
You know you'll run around
Run around for her
You know you want to know so pure

Ease on that dirt road
You've still a ways to go
Soak in sights and city lights
While you still can borrow
Cursed fall will find you
And bring a memory
The ghost of her surrender
With the kiss of anarchy

She's naked at my door
Vanity cries, why?
Vanity wants everything and more
Vanity must die
Die

I agree with hesitating stars above. The girl is throwing her life to drugs, and (Billy) is being torn apart by it...not only is she ripping his heart out (because, at the moment at least, she holds his heart in her hand), but his life is spiraling downwards because of it.

And quite honestly, I have been with someone who did so many drugs and drank so much alcohol at parties that she would lose control over herself. It tore me apart because there was nothing I could do except agonize over her when I wasn't with her, and keep an eye over her (which sometimes involved fighting the other groping and horny males) when she started "partying". This song touches on that dark agony perfectly.

cursed fall will find you and bring a memory the ghost of her surrender with the kiss of anarchy

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
