Soul on Fire Lyrics

SOUL ON FIRE
------------
Angels fall to earth
World heats down
Cool
Now your heart is cold
Waiting on the summer
Of my soul

Devil-girl you must burn
Burn at the touch
Of autumn's breath
Burn that heart of cold
Simmering in the samhain
Of my soul

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Angels fall to earth
World heats down
Oh now you heart is cold
Waiting on the summer
Of my soul

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Come wrap my love in your house of ice
Melt you down more than once or twice
Make you shake till worlds align
See your body tremble with the blood on fire
'Cause the season in my veins
Will end your world
To the season of the flames you must pray and learn
Change all the things that you've ever seen
Change all vision
Kill all endings

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul, ooh yea
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul, ooh yea
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul, ooh yea
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Gotta wait
On the samhain of my soul, ooh yea
Gonna bring your world
Down in fire

Alright, there are a few ways of looking at this song:

In Scottish/Irish Christianized legends, the faerie folk were once angels who were too good for hell, but too bad for heaven, and were exiled to earth rather than sent to hell. "Angels fall to earth" could be a reference to this.

Samhain was the Celtic New Year, and also marked the beginning of "winter", as opposed to Beltane six months later which marked the beginning of "summer." Samhain was the final harvest festival - the culling of the herds, when any animal unlikely to survive the winter was slaughtered for meat and hide. Traditionally, Samhain marked the last day anything could be harvested - anything left in the fields after that day was left for the daoine sidhe - the faerie folk.

Samhain, however, was also a fire festival, where the hearth fires were kindled for staying warm through the winter. It also marked a "thin time" when the veil between the human world and the supernatural world was practically nonexistent. "Samhain of my soul" could refer either to becoming close to the alien world of the supernatural, or kindling a spiritual fire (which, given the ceremonial magick allusions throughout Danzig's work, wouldn't be unusual) against the wintry spirits.

In Scotland, in particular, the faerie folk were divided into the Summer/Seelie Court who meant well for humanity, and the Winter/Unseelie Court which meant well for themselves at the cost of whoever. The song could be seen as a call of defense against the influence of the seductive winter faeries.

Generally, however, just a good song. I like the subtle use of the horn section.

Song Meaning

we all seem to relate fire, finale harvest, "devil", fallen angels. And someone please correct me if im wrong. Druids on their festivale of hallows eve built giant wickers of men, which symbolized the dark spirit of the earth (Sam Hain). In order to appease him they had to give not only leave what was not harvested: they felt packing these wicker men full with all the murderers, rapists, criminals of that year and setting flame to it,that sam hain would embodie the wicker man while on fire and as it smoldered with all the dark souls sam...

Well...lets get it started...

"Angels fall to earth World heats down Cool"

Some Bible interpretations say that when the angels fell to Earth after the first battle in heaven the impact brought the end of the prehistoric era and the begining of the so called "Ice Age".This was the meteor responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs...

"Now your heart is cold Waiting on the summer Of my soul"

Like John Milton described in "Paradise Lost" Lucifer and the fallen angels were feeling empty, cold and without light in their hearts. They were none of what they were one day, now, away from the presence of God.

The summer could be something like "samhain" in the celtic culture or heat, representing Lucifer now so called Satan (Foe, enemy)
