I believe it leans towards the acceptance of ones self, embracing the depression which might end badly, but he’s accepted who he truly is. No more fighting to be someone else. He’s tired of being fake and pretending he’s fine, although he did try to change himself. Even if it ends in suicide, he’s ok with that now.

It also speaks to me on an addiction and withdrawal level, from personal experience I’ve felt these words play out.

It’s the greatest day because you’re done, you’ve made up your mind to quit; but the irony is you feel awful and don’t know that you’ll make it through to tomorrow. When I was using I was fake, it wasn’t the real me, so the first day of finally deciding to be sober was a great day, although a horrible day too. I knew I couldn’t focus on tomorrow because it seemed so far away. I was unsure of where it would go, but kept trying to break away and finding the real me, fighting myself.

My Angel wings were bruised in regret. Someone who was once innocent and kept trying to do the right thing but kept beating themselves up, addicts often live in regret but want to find peace again. Sometimes the greatest day can be the most painful day in my opinion.

“I want to turn you on”…could that represent talking to your alter ego, basically talking to yourself? He wants to get the other version of himself turned back on, possibly by using again? He’s obviously battling something within. Using can be a turn on for yourself.

Also if you give in and go back to using, it turns into the greatest day you’ve “never” known.
