Drown Lyrics

No matter where you are, I can still hear you when you drown
You've traveled very far Just to see you I'll come around, when I'm down
All of those yesterdays
Coming around

No matter where you are, I can still hear you when you dream
You traveled very far
You traveled far, like a star
And you are
All of those yesterdays
Coming around

Is it something someone said?
Was it something someone said ?

Yesterday the sky was you
And I still feel the same
Nothing left for me to do
And I still feel the same

I wish, I wish I could fly
I wish, I wish I could lie
I will, I will try
I will, I will
Goodbye

it's about losing the person who's perfect for you, because you're not really perfect for them... that cruel twist of fate when you break up with the person who you know you'll always love and always think about...

Singles is a great movie and has one of the best soundtracks too.

I love the Smashing Pumpkins, and this song has a lot of meaning to me. To me, this song is about a guy who has a lot of feelings for a girl that broke up with him. He's trying to get over her, but he can't. He feels like his place in her life is to protect her and since he isn't a part of her life anymore, he has to stay from a far and watch her as she is in distress. Not only that, but memories of the "good times" also come to him.
Great song, Great band.

I always feel a tinge of sadness after hearing the "I wish, I wish I could lie" part.

My Opinion

Lost zero, i think you're right. When he says "yesterday the sky was you" he means that yesterday (ie. before they broke up), his sky (ie. everything surrounding him, all he could see wherever he went) was her. That line has a lot of meaning for me, whether I misinterpreted it or not.

I still get goosebumps every time i hear the guitar solo right after "was it something someone said?"

Yeah, I think it's about just trying to strive for a dream and needing someone to help you get there, like a dream of becoming a musician in a band, perhaps. Or trying to carry on the pursuit of happiness without someone helping you reach the dream or once they have helped you get to where you wanted to go.

This song is about two soul mates who have had a hard time of it in this life. No matter what happens or how much distance separates them, they are deeply connected on many levels. This bond cannot be broken, though at times in life it gets stretched pretty thin. Sometimes they mistreat each other. The past is full of pain from these episodes. But in the end, the only thing that matters - that will ever matter - that can ever matter - is that they love each other.
That's what I think.
