this song has really awesome twin guitar work as well, and i just LOVE the little acoustic breakdown with like tabla drums and such... anyway, i think this song is about love... and brokenheartedness. possibly the scars of wisdom refer to the wisdom of the realization that the love is finite. i think theres more to it, but i'm pretty bad at song interperatation.
