Parachute Lyrics

There we stand about to fly
Peeking down over land
Parachute behind
What was that moment for which we live?
Without a parachute about to dive
I find myself convincing
Blindly falling faster
How easy
Know the place I’m leaving
And the rest just is gone
Oh the adoration
But how much strength does it take
For exploration
For split decision
Or are you stronger to remain
I find myself convincing
Blindly falling faster
How easy
Know the place I’m leaving
And the rest is just gone
It crept up on me
Ignored all my pleas
Begging to leave
No justice to name me
Fell out of the sky
Cease it to be
Without a reply
Gravity fails me
And when I awoke
I knew what was real
Hope to convince you
Lies they all torture me
Opened the door
Knew what was me
I finally realized
Parachute over me

I love this song

This is quite possibly my favorite song out there period. But I wonder what they mean about having a parachute behind. Do they mean that we have something to fall back on, something to break our fall? I think this song is just about taking that big leap, it does not matter what the leap is about, but just taking a chance and dealing with the consequences. Beautiful!

the parachute would traditionally be behind you prior to a jump. i dunno. but this song is beautiful.

my friend chris plays and sings this song all the time... so the song makes me think of him...he would let me do the higher parts on the beach at night. this song just reminds me of my summers with him...

this song is so beautiful. i can't help but cry. i agree with the wrecka on what it's about. taking a leap, a chance...losing control purposely. the jump is always the hardest. and i think when it says "gravity fails me" it's saying that just because you leap doesn't mean you have to fall, or even land.

Well, this song was played on a retreat I went on and agree with all of you about the meaning, but one thing I find cool, is that the parachute could be God. To me it fits, and thats what I like to think it means, or thats my own personal meaning I've given it. For Christians, it can really be a boost knowing that when we got out on the limb, God is there to ease us and to help us out. Now please dont go off saying that I'm wrong or anything, cause I might be wrong based on what the band says. I jsut thought I would share it with you people. Ok, I'm done.

@ChristDudeFIF I 100% agree! the idea that the parachute is God matches perfectly with the song because of course, we know that God will always be there for us; always be someone we can lean on. The line where it says "Oh the adoration,¨ means that with the parachute we can take a big leap into our journey with God to love and worship him. a Split decision we are making to connect and come back to our creator that we love. I hope that makes sense -- I love how you interpreted this song.

thank you soooo much, christdudefif, you were so very civil about your religious beliefs, and didn't try to say you were right and everyone else was wrong. that is absolutely wonderful... even though i disagree with you :). seriously, though, that was the perfect way to present a view.

Everyone seems to be taking the "traditional" approach to this song, but think about it another way....Someone has taken that first giant leap into the unknown, and is suffering because of it ("gravity fails me"). Whoever took this "leap of faith" has made a mistake, and they don't want anyone to "land" in the spot that they have. In the beginning of the song, it says "There WE stand, about to fly." WE. This person is not alone in their travels. They're with a friend, but the friend is trailing them. One is leading, the other following. What I'm getting at is this...The person who made the mistake (Not of going first, but "landing" where they did) is trying to tell their friend to keep going. Thus..."Parachute over me!" This line isn't a realization, it's a request! Keep going! Don't make the same mistake I did! I'll catch up later! Go further than I did! An interesting twist no?
