they're going higher
wind is whistling on the barbs
your head's a hammer
hang wire, hang wire
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire
that man is a liar
the day is like a warm night
salt rusts the cold line
hang wire, hang wire
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire
every morning and every day
i'll bossanova with ya
if there were a fire
can we scratch beneath this
hang wire, hang wire
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire?
wind is whistling on the barbs
your head's a hammer
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire
the day is like a warm night
salt rusts the cold line
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire
i'll bossanova with ya
can we scratch beneath this
hang wire
(meet you at the) hang wire?

Yeah, they're haikus alright.
"The Stones recorded a song called "Hang Fire". I really liked how it sounded, but I couldn't reuse the same words. "Wire" was the initial point for the lyrics. I thought about barbed wires, in a farm, and I took inspiration from Japanese poetry, reusing the Haiku format: 5 syllabs, then 7, then 5 again" - Black Francis
I recall reading somewhere that the "I'll bossanova wit ya" line referred to the film Communion (possibly also the book by Whitley Streiber), and to a scene where Christopher Walken, in the role of Streiber, connects with some visiting aliens and dances with them to a bossanova beat (just before the 90 minute mark):

Didn't notice the verses were Haikus. Cool :)
I like this song, it's one of my favorites... But i don't know why...
these are haikus, aren't they?
pure adrenalin
Every morning and every day I'll bossanova with ya
It sounds so harsh.
Anyways, what does Bossanova mean. Am I a sheltered idiot and should this be completely obvious?
I just love pixies. Joey Santiagos cool guitar riffs, Black Francis snarly vocals and weird lyrics and Kim deals cool backup vocals and bassline is awesome.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Bossa nova is a Brazilian dance, or a piece of music for such a dance. Many keyboards have a bossa nova rhythm on them.
one of my favorite songs by the pixies... although i'm not sure why. maybe it's just the way that it flows so well, but still has that weird and different style that this band always seems to have.
