Blown Away Lyrics
this is my favorite pixies song. it is so deep and the music goes with the lyrics great. it's incredibly catchy and mysterious. i think it means just trying to get a message across to someone and them just ignoring you. it could probably be a person being tortured by misery and he can't tell anyone and no one senses. the sun part was probably just put there because it fit, like many pixies lyrics were.
I love this song, but it's really not as deep as all that. Cut through Black's trademark odd and obscure lyrics for simple things. It appears to be just a story about a couple, from the male's perspective probably, who's been fighting constantly ("through a storm I called you/it fell each day") and going through the motions, or sleepwalking through their relationship ("while we were sleeping"). He's trying to tell his lover that he cares, but is unable.
agreed, someone is saying something, but someone isnt listening.
not much been said on 1st stanza. has he written about days gone by without making any changes, the storm is there everyday, as constant as the sun?
I really love this song, I'm surprised there aren't more comments.
Solar wind?
The sun burning in deepest space, that is the subjective feeling wanting expression, being the most felt thing in the universe, he being the most sincere and honest in it and knowing it in his heart, but there is no way she can believe it, or feel it also. It is inexpressible, and yet it is the truth. Nothing hotter than the sun, but when burning in deepest space, no way for it to reach anything. Is it their relationship? Is it the way things are more generally? Both?
Something in the middle, like a storm, also plays its part to blow away all that tries to cross the infinite barrier. Even if it COULD cross, these other things just blow it away.
Is there any langauge beyond words that could get the message across, the way feeling his face with her hand might? Even that probably couldn't do it. Like a choked off scream in sleep, it won't get across. She probably felt it to mean something else, the shape of his face was intangible in what he wanted it to say, like faces in dreams, or her hand numb like that of one in sleep.
Maybe he thought she understood him, maybe he hoped she did, but he didn't get quite so far as he wished. Does anyone ever? Forever unknown, unfelt.
Or maybe that's just me.
This is a cry for someone who has passed away. The father, for example... We could share with him something we cannot tell anybody and at the moment when it hurts - "the sun is burning in the deepest space" - through the storm we call him... Clearly there is no reply - "my words get blown away" - but we cherish a thought that he can still hear us.

I don't think this song has any linear meaning at all. It's just pure feeling. Yes, it could be about all those things you guys have said, but it's surely not a linear lyric. It doesn't mean to say something, but rather to express a state of mind. In this case, a state of mind of mysteriousness, weirdness, and existencial stuff.
