i don't think this song is about others in the punk scene being judgemental. i think it is just about all the jocks and popular kids who dismiss geeks and punks as "weird" because they are actually devoted to their music.
I always assumed this song was about how people mocked Ian and his friends for their physical appearance without getting to know them..first in the Teen Idles for "dressing punk" and later when Ian started shaving his head completely bald for Minor Threat. It was seen as an anti social or evil thing by most, but ironically his personality was nothing like the average "skinhead". This song seems to be about ignorance and how it pissed him off.

it's how most people of this world react to the better people. That some would call the "freaks", but it's obvious that we the "freaks" are so far beyond what they could ever understand.......

I actually think it means that all the people in the punk scene look at him and laugh...because he doesn't drink or smoke. They taunt him from inside theri little social groups. That would make a lot more sense.
Pins 4skins idea makes a lot of sense. But I think it may be how everyone else looks at punks, goths, and other "freaks."

To me, it's about someone judging you by your looks and they probably talk crap about you, but only when they're with their little clique.
hey linkin park playa and wildflowerdd, remember to turn the message on yourself once and a while...you seem to think that you are "so far beyond what they could ever understand" without even qualifying they or looking at 'them' more than superficially. In short, you have no more right to be pompous than anyone else
