Sitting in the back yard in broad daylight
When everything around me seems to spend once or twice
Days when I acted like a fool
Days when I broke every rule
Tell me How long?
Are you wasting my time going mind to mind
Tell me How long?
Are you wasting my time going mind to mind yeah
Little Jack Horner sitting in the corner looks real sad
When everything around him really makes him mad
Days when he acted like a fool
Days when he broke every rule
Tell me

Walking the street at a cool cool night
Looking around it's all full of fright
I never thought I could be so strong
I'm shaking just like I've never seen the light

Tell me How long!

Look at us all standing on the shoulders
Of the Jolly Green Giant
"Is that my son up there?" my mom said
"Is that my grandson up there?" my grandmama said
Yeah it's me mom taking my time
Yeah it's me mom riding the ride
Look at me now, I'm King Kong
Look at me now, why don't you tell me,
Tell me How long!

    My Interpretation

This song sounds like he is up on drugs. The backyard spins, he acts a fool breaking every rule is kind of admitting that what he is doing is wrong but can't seem to break the cycle. He starts to wonder when he will break the cycle of getting high. Then he reflects back on the fear creeping in as he was sitting in a corner (probably on the floor) and confused as he was depressed and angry but not feeling like he could shake the feelings of depression that comes with being high. He walks around sober and the world seems more evil and revels in how strong he is to be sober then he finds himself getting high again on what I assume is pot seeing as he calls it the green giant. He again feels the judgement of his family but is enjoying the ride too much to really care and then wonders when he will ever get off the roller-coaster of drugs.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
