Sunday Suit Lyrics

Shun me I've done you wrong, mocked you and broke your home, carried on as a king to a throne, and I know, I loathed. Yet I've reconciled my faith with no way to explain where it comes from. Heard out suspicious ways, and forwent the drowning pain, and I've had mine. Sunday suit never fit quite right, maybe why I never saw your light, fear had its grip for quite some time, so I obeyed and lied. Listen don't hear this wrong, you've taught me what I know, and though I'm not what you want, I've found peace on my own. Sunday suit never fit quite right, maybe why I left Siddhartha style, I choose a path of open minds, am I damned for it? I know the evils of mankind and I keep far from them. Do all I can to grow inside. Judge me for that.

Wow, what amazing lyrics. A message directed to God about how he chooses not to follow Christianity but still can lead a full and good life.

I think Jinx got it right. He's saying that living a good and moral life is what matters, not believing in a god. "I've found peace on my own. Sunday suit never fit quite right, maybe why I left Siddhartha style, I choose a path of open minds, am I damned for it?"

I think this song is directed more at not following your parents religion.

i dont overly agree with travis. it definatly sounds more on a religious scale, simply based o nthe language used. however HWM are intelligent guys...so they might have meant alot of things...its definatly an uplifting song

i love this song. i think it doesn't really matter if the lyrics are more directed at not following your parents or if they are directed to god. both possibilities are plausibly. the name "siddhartha" mentioned in the song seems to be a good reference. siddhartha is a book by hermann hesse. the guy called siddhartha is from india. he's searching for the meaning of life. on his journey he realises that other people may have found THEIR meaning of live, but although this meaning can be the right one for them it hasn't to be the right one for HIMSELF. i think this describes pretty much the meaning of the song. just search the net for siddhartha if your interested.

sorry for my clumsy english i'm from germany

I think this is not necessarily about religion. I think it's about finding your own path, and that you should be judged on how you live. You might make mistakes when younger, but that you can always change your outlook and become a better person. It goes with the growth and evolving of HWM's music too. Songs like Rocksinger are very angry and full of hate, while this song is all about a calmer and more accepting outlook. It's a message to all those people who are negative about others for no actual reason, just for the sake of it and how being bitter and angry is ont the way to live, and only when you free yourself from the shackles of hatred can you really grow and be happy.
