Stone On The Water Lyrics

So we restored harmony
Smooth the lines on the face
Of an old enemy
But there's no wood on the fire again
We could meet in a place you know where
I know when to go

Skip like a stone on the water
Fall with no trace to lie permanently

Into the valley we roam
Where we fumble around
Until we find our way home
Yet all we have is an old ball of string
Will it reach to the end of this old labyrinth
No.

Skip like a stone on the water
Fall with no trace to lie permantly

I thought in the line "will it reach to the end of this old labyrinth" it really says "will it reach to end of this dark labyrinth". oh well, this is just such a great song!

This is a song about things coming full circle again, only things will go poorly with this new repitition. The characters are unprepaired and the situation will most likely end in disaster.

In some versions, it IS 'dark labyrinth', but old is the more common one.

This song made me the man I am today.

i see this more as a positive song bc of the chorus. it seems more like he's saying that you should take whatever life throws at you. "fall with no trace to lie permanently" seems to suggest that even though you're falling you shouldn't assume that you'll die (lie permanently) and instead take nothing for granted and take everything as it comes and make the best out of it. maybe i'm just being way too philosophical and reading into this way too much, but it doesnt matter because the song is still absolutely phenomenal--def my fave on this album. he's really a mastermind when it comes to writing beatiful pieces of music.

On mine it's "dark". I think it's great how he releases different versions of the songs with his albums - gives the die-hards (like me ;)) a chance to collect!
