Siva Lyrics

I spin off and lose my head
Throwing stray a spark instead
Gather strength down in my heel
And dig it in the world I peel

Way down deep within my heart
Lies a soul that's torn apart
Tell me, tell me what you're after
I just want to get there faster

I don't live - I inhale
I don't give - I unveil
Don't want to live in your misery
I don't live - I inhale

Sprinkle all my kisses on your head
Stars full of wishes fill our beds
She said, "I'm dead"

All this pain smothers me
Like a bomb that you can't see
Tell me, tell me what you're after
I just want to get there faster

I don't live - I inhale
I don't give - I unveil
I don't live - I inhale
I don't live

To me, it sounds like this song was written from the 1st person view AS Siva. Siva, being the god of destruction and rebirth, is in total chaos at all times. It seems as though Billy feels that he has become chaotic through the actions of someone who betrayed him and he's striking back, not for revenge, but more so for his own rebirth or enlightenment.

Billy's described Gish as a very spiritual album and I think this song is one of the reasons why

'I don't live - I inhale' A lot of spiritual practices involves focusing on the intake of breath because that is what keeps us alive, so 'living' and 'inhaling' are the same in that respect, but spiritual practices tend to take the 'inhaling' perspective so I think that's what Billy meant by that

'I don't give - I unveil' Spirituality involves tearing away the illusions and the layers of your ego to uncover the 'true self' which is a philosophy originating in India and referred to in Hinduism, Yoga etc. so there's a connection with the song title

The rest of the lyrics do seem to refer to a break-up or some sort of relationship problems which again is reflected in the title with 'shiva' referring to the tantric concepts of opposing masculine and feminine forces, so I believe that Billy's referring to meditation (or tripping!) to escape these problems or remedy the emotional distress caused by the relationship

I found this at merriamwebster.com... siva: the god of destruction and regeneration in the Hindu sacred triad. So I guess you can spell it like that.

It's about depression and heartache

i have no idea what this song means but i like it

This song is most probably based on the story of Hindu mythology about ""Siva's"" havoc, rage, his creative and destructive ability, which all the the gods were unable to: face, contain or fight, which he unvieled on the world, his unstoppable righteous anger, when a pure person, His worshipper and lover named "sati" who he was going to marry, died by jumping in fire of a ceremony established by her father, because of the shame which her father threw on her by disregarding Shiva (SIVA) as an acceptable groom for sati for his "Wicked Way of Lifestyle"....

Easily their best song.

Siva is another spelling of Shiva which is the seven day mourning period observed by the Jewish when a close family member dies. I think the song is about a guy losing his temper and starting a fight with his girlfriend or wife and he's feeling bad about it so "I don't live - I inhale" (marijuana). It seems like he thinks she's using his guilt to get something so he just wants to know what she's after so he can get the whole situation over with faster, but he also lets her know that he won't be used - "I don't give - I unveil."

Definitely about seriously hurting inside-

"Way down deep within my heart Lies a soul that's torn apart "

And-

"All this pain smothers me Like a bomb that you can't see"

Really a gorgeous song...I can relate so easily to that feeling of trying to express just how painful it is inside, and being really not able to clearly...just lovely.

Im not sure whether the name has anything to do with the lyrics, cause Corgan is known for giving songs very random names... but it was going to be the name of the band until Corgan decided that Smashing Pumpkins was better, so it obviously means something to Billy
