When did you all lose sight of the fact that the purpose of this site is to discus the meaning of song lyrics, and not to bash other people on their mispellings and opinions? This song is pretty straight forward in my opinion. I think it is advocating reform in both the music industry and world government. They are unhappy with the way things are. Too much enphasis is placed on appearances, on making money, not on making music. They are saying we are not ready to move forward. We are too immature if you will, to be able to recognize that we even need to move forward. "How ca we expect anyone to listen if we are using the same old voice? we need new noise, new art for the real people" If you try to spread your message in a way that appeals to the mainstream, you won't get you're message across, especially when that message is that mainstream sucks. You have to back up what you're saying with what you're doing. And that is exactly what Refused did.
@Kastagear I think it's important to realize that they weren't only singing about mainstream beeing crap but capitalism and all its aftermath. Like the misery and exploitation in some areas of the world, or all the people that waste their life trying to reach something they can't instead of living and enjoying their life and so on. At least in my opinion.

The first lines of this song are arranged so great, you have to jump around when you hear them...
They split up.
The reason Refused got over so big was because they played catchy music disguised as hardcore. I must admit, I love Refused, but I also admit that it's only because they're one of the catchiest bands out there playing music I love. Look at the Clash. Catchy rock music with punk views. This is also the same reason terrible bands like Rancid and all of these "nu-emo" bands get over. Listen to the band Text. It has members from Refused, but it's so much more abstract and experimental.
especially when he first screams ''can i scream''.............im definately not gonna stop him
Refused great band, Rancid terrible band. Enough said.
oh my god i love refused. and yeah they are right up there with fugazi because fugazi kicks ass. so does ian mckaye. but seriously why do all the great bands have to go. i miss at the drive in. thank god for sparta. i miss refused thank god for T(I)NC. I miss rage thank god for chris cornell, the last one was a fluke but oh well.
RIP Refused, one of the great hardcore/punk bands of our time. They were on to something, an amazing band with loads of talent. You will always be remembered for your acomplishments guys
