I can see both of the meanings that are posted in here. I wish these guys were still recording. I think I was only in the third grade when these guys released their first album, so I of course never knew they existed until probably my sophomore year in highschool. But anyways, I think Candlebox is great! I thought they had a unique style.
this song is about a relationship. The different phases of the realtionship are shown through "you're over me..." When he says "You're under me" when she questioned his authority (by not obeying or by lying) he took almost everything from her. It is one of my favorities it has alot of emotion.

This is a prayer to God with the songwriters version of God's response. the lines that follw "OVER ME..." is the songwriter praying to God. The lines that follow "YOU"RE UNDER ME..." is God's response.
The chorus is all pleading from the songwriter to cover him.
The bridge, I think, is God's response with the songwriter injecting throughout you got to cover me from all this stuff
I think it is a somewhat bitter acknowledgement that God is in control, the songwriter doesnt like all this crap happening to him but lifting it up to God saying cover me
