Replica Lyrics
I'm home again, I won the war, and now I am behind your door.
I tried so hard to obey the law, see the meaning of it all.
Remember me? Before the war. I'm the man who lived next door.
Long ago...
As you can see, when you look at me, I'm pieces of what I used to be.
It's easier if you don't see me standing on my own two feet.
I'm taller when I sit here still, you ask are all my dreams fulfilled.
They made me a heart of steal, the kind them bullets
cannot see
Nothing's what it seems to be, I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me, I'm not myself, I'm a replica of me...
The light is green, my slate is clean, new life to fill the hole in me.
I had no name, last December, Christmas Eve I can't remember.
I was in a constant pain, I saw your shadow in a rain.
I painted all your pigeons red, I wish I had stayed home instead.
Nothing's what it seems to be, I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me, I'm not myself, I'm a replica of me...
Are you gonna leave me now, when it is all over
Are you gonna leave me, is my world now over...
Raising from the place I've been, and trying to keep my home base clean.
Now I'm here and won't go back believe.
I fall asleep and dream a dream, I'm floating in a silent dream.
No-one placing blame on me but nothing's what it seems to be, yeah.
Nothing's what it seems to be, I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me, I'm not myself, I'm a replica of me...

God damn, why do people think every song written by rockers is about drugs?
I'm going with the war thing. Narrator was in the army, killed people, saw his mates be killed, war trauma, there you go.
@Slicky You can make any song about drugs if you try hard enough.

Every song by Alice in Chains? Heroin. Date Rape by Sublime? Heroin. Baby by Justin Bieber? I thought you'd always be mine? Clearly about heroin.

Holy christ this is stupid. "And "the" is a metaphor for giant red dragon eating children." Just because its a song doesn't mean its filled with fucking metaphors. I'd say chances are this song is about a soldier who's guitly about lifes he took during combat. He won the war yet he's taller when he sits. I know one thing I'd feel a bit fucking better then that if I just won against a coke addiction.
The war thing is the obvious answer, but a logical one at that. I don't think it's necessary to delve deeper into the song. Take it how you want to, be it war or war as a metaphor. I'll go with war myself, but either way, it's a bloody good song.
I love this song! It's about how war changes people.
I don't think it's about how WAR changes people. I think it's about how difficulties of life change people. "War" is just a metaphor. The hard times are over now, but they have really changed him and he needs support, he feels weak. As he is different now, he's afraid his loved ones won't accept him anymore and will turn their back on him (Are you gonna leave me now, when it is all over).
Metaphors are a HUGE part of writing, and it's not beyond Sonata Arctica to speak of the difficulties of life as war.
Anyway, I agree with RainbowDemon. Regardless of how you look at it, this song is AWESOME.
What does ‘painted all your pigeons red’ mean?
@Merlynophelia I think it's maybe because they used piegons to send messages. He probably was hurt or hurt an enemy so had his own or enemy blood on his hands while taking the letter from the pigeon. --> painted all your pigeons red :)

This is the theme song for Tales of the Abyss
Yeah, me too :) but what do you mean by "war changes people", how? sry, i dont have a clue what this song is about :)
Yeah, i agree. Because he says "I won the war" :) I think your right.
winning the war is often more traumatic than losing... to win means you have killed many more people to reach this victory... it is a bitter victory to the soldiers and sweet to the leaders of the country of course who don't go through the shattering experience of killing millions of other people who you have no quarry against but because it suites the country they are suddenly 'enemies to be annihilated'

so the war has definitely changed and scarred him
