kindof seems drug-induced, in an imaginative way... like her own secret fantasy that no one can enter, and these people are all parts of her being
This is a great song... I love it (lol, see the username?)... I don't think this is what Ani meant... it's too obscure... but "hat shaped hat" reminds me of the expression "that hat doesn't fit my head", and to me, it's a reference to that.
i think the phrases "hat shaped hat" and "man in the shape of a man" are all calling things out that aren't really what you think they are, or that can be interpreted in different ways, for instance when the man holds up two fingers and says "how many fingers?", referring to number, ani replies "peace man, thats where its at" transforming it into a symbol rather than a quantity. over all another fantastic groove set by the wonderful little folk singer.
