i think this is such a wonderful song, with a search for identity and finding some body elses, having an understanding that things wont always be but taking advantage of them while you can
this is one of my favorite songs, i like the live at carnegie hall version, such a good song. it's about her old friends and everyone she knows and has met along the long journey of her career. She's talking about how there are so many people and she doesn't remember all of them, and wants to meet people that are different that she wouldn't be able to forget. She is in search of unique people, and I think some of the content is similar to "Face Up and Sing", how she has had so many people do the same things to her, and she just wants something different!
in the live version (well several i heard) she sometimes sings a different last verse. This might be old news to a lot of you, but for those that are curious this is what she sings on several concerts:
