If It Isn't Her Lyrics
I love this song. It refers to love-at-first-sight, lesbian style.
There's some humor and seduction in the song:
"she says do i know you? i say well, no, not biblically"
I also really like the exchange:
"i have been playing too many of those boy-girl games she says honey you are safe here this is a girl-girl thing"
Ani has this great way of building layers and layers into her music, just whne she has you on one train of thought, she changes it. What a break from the predictable.
One thing that always throws me off of Ani's songs is that she's bi- so the pronouns change from song to song. Which can be kind of interrupting when you find men in your cherished lesbian music.
This song, however, is safe from that- hell, its got the lesbian John Wayne. Goddess bless Ani.
I always find songs that are so, so perfect for this girl I like - for instance, Lykke Li's "Little Bit." It's all about being scared but so in love you don't care, and you just have to know if the other person feels the same way.

And then the song proceeds to crush my convoluted, imaginary lesbian storyline by dropping "I would give anything to have you as my man."

Damn.
Damn.
"i didn't really notice when everything else disappeared but as far as i'm concerned if it isn't her it isn't here"its just like when one person enters and you are so captivated and anything around you is uneccisary excepyt them
"Which can be kind of interrupting when you find men in your cherished lesbian music. "
Not sure about anyone else, but I'm straight, but I can relate to ANY Ani song, no matter the pronoun. I don't think of her songs towards a certain gender as songs towards that gender. I think about them as songs towards love, emotions, feelings.
