God In My Bed Lyrics
Before last night my heart was grey
Like my country is today
Big kaleidoscope I see
A thousand people gaze at me
To break the ice I start to sing
About a cell called everything
A cell so big a word like small
Is suitable to say it all
Is the fighting over? I lost track
Like a wave it all comes back
Same kaleidoscope I see
Someone standing next to me
It's hard to do, it's hard to try
Hard to stop wondering why
Do I keep filing every case
When the answer's on your face
You can't see her but you do
Music is transparent too
So join me, sing with all your might
Hallelujah, praise tonight
Far away and long ago
Wintertime meant feeling low
Now every single star looks bright
God was in my bed last night
Like my country is today
Big kaleidoscope I see
A thousand people gaze at me
About a cell called everything
A cell so big a word like small
Is suitable to say it all
Like a wave it all comes back
Same kaleidoscope I see
Someone standing next to me
Hard to stop wondering why
Do I keep filing every case
When the answer's on your face
Music is transparent too
So join me, sing with all your might
Hallelujah, praise tonight
Wintertime meant feeling low
Now every single star looks bright
God was in my bed last night

To me this song says how empty your life can't be if you don't have something to believe in. The more you go to the ending of the song, the more positive it gets. Believing can give you more reasons for living.
I don't think the song is really about believing in some kind of God. It's about surviving a depression, about seeing the beuatiful things of life again, about friends who shold your hand...God is just the image she uses for that very special moment when all at once everything became clear... But who am I to pretend to know what the author meant with this song ;)
Gert and Sarah Bettens wrote in the album '10' (the best songs between 1993 and 2003) something about every song, and why they had written it. I really love the song 'God In my bed', I really wanted to know what they had to say about that song. It said: "My ode to love" Mmm, OK, it's just his ode to love..
Of course this song is about love! It starts out with aloneness and seperation, then the person finds someone like them...someone they love. This song has been me and my fiance's song for a while now : )
To me for a long time, this song was about acceptance and forgiveness, that was the god who came to bed. But I suppose it's probably written as an ode to love and the healing effect of making love. But actually I think it's about all those things together.:)
"God was in my bed last night" - come on people, like if that is not obvious. The singer informs us that she got laid the night before and is feeling mighty fine as a result, much better than before.
