Legion Lyrics

Enveloped in a sentiment, a sound that rushes over me.
Engage an impulse to pretend I have a faith as pure.
Not forgetting what it means to dream.
Indulging everything.
Entertaining thoughts that I've the strength of those I yearn to be.
Cheers and tribute greet the saviours.
Reckless thoughts survive.
Anachronistic and impulsive.
And what will happen?
Will I dream?
I am too scared to close my eyes.
For a second please hold me.
None can change in me these things that I believe.
But I don't know what happens now.
I am too scared to close my eyes.

I believe that it is about the future, about the technological advances that could occur. Such as having a robotic body, it could be a person not wondering what will happen, being afraid of this major change. if it isn't that, then it probably is just about some emotions that they have.

I'm interested in transhumanism as well, and thought of that when I heard "And what will happen? Will I dream?" but the image that really sticks in my mind is that of a legionary dying on a battlefield in Teutoberg or maybe Judea, anywhere in the Empire really. (See comment below by Darker, ha.)

He's on the ground, covering a deep abdominal wound with both hands, trying in vain to keep his life from pouring out of him. The song is a transcript of his last thoughts as he perishes.

I love this song! It seriously brings tears to my eyes, I guess I just really relate to it.

This was the frist VNV Nation song I'd ever heard. It scared me, because it hit so close to home. I have a problem with nightmares sometimes. Even with that in context this song emodies so many other parts of me as well.

I have no idea what it means, but it's a very emotional song. As a 'fan' you 'shoul' like the more optimistic songs, and this is not one of them. But I find it comforting that words are put on my unnamed feelings. That can't be bad.

doubts about the future, about the beliefs and things like that. amazingly written. however, the live version is much better. Ronnan puts much more emtotion into it than on the album version.

I agree that Legion is about doubts. This is how I interpret: I've been brought up to believe in something, whether it's God or whatever. Now I'm on my deathbed, and my faith, whatever it is that I've been believing my whole life, is being tested. So, here I am dying, and I ask myself all sorts of questions: Where am I going to be when I "close my eyes" (i.e., die)? Will I go to heaven, or hell? "Will I dream?" Or will I be anywhere at all?

the first time i heard this song i was a junior in high school, just starting to look at colleges and really not having any idea where my life was headed. the second half especially hit home for me. just the whole idea of being a little terrified of what was coming next.

Seems like a fear of how the narrator will be judged and where he will be placed(As afterlife). Whether he has been good enough to reach a heaven(Whatever you may call it) or Hell.
