Nightfall Lyrics

No sign of life did flicker
In floods of tears she cried
"All hope's lost it can't be undone
They're wasted and gone"

"Save me your speeches
I know (They blinded us all)
What you want
You will take it away from me
Take it and I know for sure
The light she once brought in
Is gone forevermore"

Like sorrowful seaguls they sang
"(We're) lost in the deep shades
The misty cloud brought
(A wailing when beauty was gone
Come take a look at the sky)
Monstrous it covered the shore
Fearful into the unknown"
Quietly it crept in new horror
Insanity reigned
And spilled the first blood
When the old king was slain

chorus:
Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Immortal land lies down in agony

"How long shall we
Mourn in the dark
the bliss and the beauty
Will not return
Say farewell to sadness and grief
Though long and hard the road may be"
But even in silence I heard the words
"An oath we shall swear
By the name of the one
Until the world's end
It can't be broken"

Just wondering how
I can still hear these voices inside

The doom of the Noldor drew near

The words of a banished king
"I swear revenge"
Filled with anger aflamed our hearts
Full of hate full of pride
We screamed for revenge

Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Immortal land lies down in agony

"Vala he is that's what you said
Then your oath's been sworn in vain
(But) freely you came and
You freely shall depart
(So) never trust the northern winds
Never turn your back on friends"

"Oh I'm heir of the high lord!"
"You better don't trust him"
The enemy of mine
Isn't he of your kind and
Finally you may follow me
Farewell
He said

Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Quietly crept in and changed us all
Nightfall
Immortal land lies down in agony

Back to where it all began.

This is really a lyrical representation of a section of "The Sillamarillion(sp?)", a book by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is essentially a pre-history of the world presented in books such as "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". The song is a small portion pertaining to nightfall in the land of Middle Earth, from the perspective of the Elves who inhabit it. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever created, and suits the feeling of fantasy novels, especially the Tolkien series VERY well.

DragonXero666 "The Silmarillion" My favourite book btw.

Nightfall of course depicts the darkening of Valinor when Ungoloant the Great literally sucked the light/life from the Two Trees, Melkor/Morgoth taken the Silmarils, and Feanor and his kin leaving Valinor for Middle Earth to make war upon Morgoth.

I agree with everything you just said in addition to that there is also what I figure to be Feanor's justification of returning to middle earth with the host of Noldor in the following lines he is speaking to the Valar - "No sign of life did flicker In floods of tears she cried "All hope's lost it can't be undone They're wasted and gone" - about the two trees of valinor poisened and dead.

"Save me your speeches I know (They blinded us all) What you want You will take it away from me Take it and I know for sure The light she once brought in Is gone forevermore" - feanor refusing to give the silmarils to the valar as they were the only three things that contained the pure light of the two trees once recovered from Morgoth. And he justifies himself in these lines - "Vala he is that's what you said Then your oath's been sworn in vain (But) freely you came and You freely shall depart (So) never trust the northern winds Never turn your back on friends" - the Valar

"Oh I'm heir of the high lord!" "You better don't trust him" The enemy of mine Isn't he of your kind and Finally you may follow me Farewell He said - Feanor

@Stronghold Makes me want to cry, thinking of the beauty, majesty and tragedy that is Feanor's tale......

@Stronghold I mean is it is so passionate, Feanor was no joke.

Maybe nobody pointed that because it's to obvious, but the line "back to where it all began" makes reference to the noldor crossing the sea heading to middle Earth, where the very first elves woke.

to be more spesific: its just when morgoth and Ungoliant destroyed the 2 trees that gave th light up to then and darkness reigned. u very VERY sad song...

Blind Guardian is an excellent band in that their ability to turn fictional characters and places of fantasy into reality through their songs. Whenever I listen to one of their songs, it simply paints such a wonderful picture of past memories, to a time when I had read such writings they sing about.

Other people have said what it's about. I live this song because it accurately reflects the end of an age.

"The light she once brought in Is gone forevermore" and "farewell, he said"

For the Noldor were leaving Valinor, so they believed, never to return until the end of the world, unless death sends them there ("for slain ye may be, and slain ye shall be").

It also well depicts the emotional pitch of the Noldor upon the tongue of Feanor, "full of hate, full of pride!" They lusted to make war upon Morgoth and they were letting nothing get in their way.

As usual a great job by the band.

This is my favorite song by Blind Guardian. It's so fluid, so dark: a sonic tapestry. I love the thundering sound of Andre's voice.

Just to define powerful: The words of a banished king "I swear revenge" Filled with anger aflamed our hearts Full of hate full of pride We screamed for revenge
