Simon Smith And The Amazing Dancing Bear Lyrics
Oh, I'd step out in style with my sincere smile and my dancing bear
Outrageous, alarming, courageous, charming
Oh, who would think a boy and bear
Could be well accepted everywhere
It's just amazing how fair people can be
Making the grandest entrance is Simon Smith and his dancing bear
They'll love us, won't they?
They feed us, don't they?
Oh, who would think a boy and bear
Could be well accepted everywhere
It's just amazing how fair people can be
The big attraction everywhere
Will be Simon Smith and his dancing bear
It's Simon Smith and the amazing dancing bear

Whenever I hear this song I think of a poor homeless boy in the Great Depression who performs for rich people for money, love, food, and acceptance.
This is a boy who doesn't want money, just wants people to like him.

I also think of Simon as a poor child; having to borrow a coat in order to go out. I wonder if the bear in question is his small teddy bear. The ever-hopeful Simon just wants to entertain, he has no lofty aspirations to actually earn any money, just to be accepted by all the 'fair' people he imagines?

Was it Adam Smith did a great vs of this - how many great songs has Randy written? - a national treasure but the lumpen proletariat of middle america don't get him - if they did there might be regime change in the White House!

Simon is a precious child whose imagination takes him to wonderful places. Good thing too, as it was his misfortune to be born into a city/family/world where it's an especially good day if there's food on the table. Or if someone smiles back.
Unlikely he'll be going ANYwhere, except in his mind.
