Freedom Or Fire Lyrics

How can you accept social suppression
This weak state of mind in our time
I demand release from hypocrisy
I'd rather die than be held down, forced down

Freedom or fire
Freedom or fire

I'm on the threshold of revolution
I'd rather burn than be held down, forced down

Freedom or fire
Freedom or fire

Unrestrained determination
Set ablaze for liberation
Locked in chains of this sovereignty
Let me be cause I long to be
Free!
Free!
Unrestrained determination

Set ablaze for liberation
Set ablaze
Set ablaze
Freedom or fire

I think the title speaks for itself. We will not stand oppresion and will go down in flames while fighting if we have to.

reminds me of the monks in...china ? that used burning themselves alive in the streets as a form of oppression.

the drumming in this song blows me away every freaking time.

@sortilegus the photo of the monk on the cover of Rage Against the Machine's album was from Vietnam.

It's about a man in the story of the album (wikipedia it). It's the speech he gives through a megaphone before lighting himself on fire.

Right enough. Reminds me of 'liberty or death' in the American revolution. Except that FF mean real freedom, rather than freedom for the American owning class in paying taxes to the British crown.

Good anti-government song. Perfect for our time of unjust wars, patriot acts, and religious hyperbole.

it angers me to see that people still believe that planes were the cause of the twin towers collapsing in the same fashion, and the garbage that was the 911 commision report. ''How can you accept social suppression, This weak state of mind in our time''

Reminds me of the phrase that Emiliano Zapata said "I'd rather die on my feet, than live on my knees".

In other words would rather die fighting for freedom (a cause) than live under oppression. This is pretty much what the song is about, in my opinion. Either sit and do nothing or be willing to set fire to yourself (fight) for your freedom!
