Descent Lyrics

Falling victim from neglect
Designed thoughts and intellect
Forgotten and displaced
The crux of my dismay

I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing

How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Deeper into this abyss

Weighted down and sinking fast
Life did not offer me
More than false destiny

I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing

How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?

I am nothing
I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing
Nothing...

How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?

Following the concept of the Obsolete concept, this is the part of the story where the Edgecrusher realises that he was designed and made into what he is and wonders how much longer it will be until everything ends.

Fade from black to the same monitor as before. Already flashing across the screen are multiple images of violence, depravity, and despair. These are auditory illusions that will relate to mechanisms normally enhancing accuracy of perception. EDGECRUSHER is alone. He has grown tired, and appears worn out. He has been running for so long from the grasp of SMASHER/DEVOURER, and evading the scope of SECURITRON. His situation is looking bleak, and the stress and angst wear on his face heavily. He ponders his own outcome, calculating every living moment of his life with the variables of his own actions. He dwells upon his life, and what it actually amounts to. He asks himself if he is merely becoming a repetition in the overall machine. Has his quest for freedom become a meaningless descent into oblivion? EDGECRUSHER stops in an abandoned building to rest himself. As he falls to sleep on a cold, flat floor, he repeats the same words as he does every night:

I'd just like to point out that it's possible for individual tracks on a concept album to have meaning independently, not just collectively. I'd say that this is actually a feature of the best concept albums.

uh...cloning, dude? its apparently about depression and all that...becoming despondant..."i feel nothing"... cloning?! wtf?

Cover art for Descent lyrics by Fear Factory

Dude....first off were all fucking fear factory fans you don't need to get offended cause I thought a fuckin song has a different meaning to you. Second, Fear Factory songs are usually about the future and government shit. I think this song is about cloning. "designed thoughts and intellect". I think you should have read the lyrics or learned a bit about Fear Factory before trying to make me sound dumb.

Dissent/Descent. Its about going against the grain, and finding out it's not really where/what you want to do. How much further will you descend into the unknown?
