I wonder: is the "phony artist" (who really paints billboards) really the singer, or someone else?
He's spoken of in third person, while the singer refers to himself extensively in first person.
I'm also not sure if he's being mocked (for his "art") or pitied (no one else would listen to him.)
North Strand & Summerhill are streets in Dublin down towards the docks and the sea. The Royal Hotel may refer to the Royal Marine Hotel in Dublin which has a sea facing view.
