Open Up Lyrics

They were looking for me when I came to
They were looking for me when I came back
Said hey you, you're looking very suspicious
I said relax man get off my back
I said relax man get off my back

I, I, I ain't opposed to seeking justice
But you're going about it all wrong
The man you're looking for does not exist
He's just a figment of the higher man's tongue

And they say
Open up we're coming inside
You can't run so you may as well hide
We got the place covered from head to toe, head to toe
Open up we're coming inside
What's it feel like to know you're going to die
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row

So they took me down to the gallows
And this boy he said to me
Why do you smile when the rope's around your neck
I said I tell you boy when I get back
I said I tell you boy when I get back

I, I, I ain't opposed to seeking justice
But you're going about it all wrong
The man you're looking for does not exist
He's just a figment of the higher man's tongue
He's just a victim of the higher man's tongue

And they say
Open up we're coming inside
You can't run so you may as well hide
We got the place covered from head to toe, head to toe
Open up we're coming inside
What's it feel like to know you're going to die
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row

Hands above your head
Que le via bien
Step out of line and we'll fill you with lead
How are we to know that you are not a liar
Don't you see we have a job to do
And our job is the law, job is the law
You fit the description of a criminal crosser
We believe that he is you and that is your flaw
That is your flaw
That is your flaw
That is your flaw
That is your flaw
That is your flaw
That is your flaw

And they say
Open up we're coming inside
You can't run so you may as well hide
We got the place covered from head to toe, head to toe
Open up we're coming inside
What's it feel like to know you're going to die
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row
On the other side of the row

This song to me is about Jesus. He was arrested because of what people said about him. "He's just a victim of the higher man's tongue"...and when he was put on the cross..."Hands about your head, Que le via bien, Step out of line and we'll you with lead"...that sounds a lot like what Jesus went through. and how he said, " Why do you smile when the rope's around your neck? I said I'llt ell you boy when i get back." that song just totally reminds me of Jesus's events. And Dispatch Rocks!!

lol idky ppl are bashin you for what you interpret the song to mean, if any1 else can tell me exactly what the song means, they should all just shut up on your intepretations, because, as far as ive read, every1 else has just said I THINK, so they dont no an better than you, i like the way you associated it, especially the when i get back, anyway, im not gonna hate on you for thinking what you think, thatd b dumb

I had not made a connection to Jesus with this song, and actually I don't really think it is about Jesus. But after reading the lyrics, I can certainly see similarities to Jesus' persecution and crucifixion. Music is all about how a given song speaks to you, and just because schleisse and big eyed phish don't see it as pertaining to Jesus, I don't see how that gives you the right to bash skygrlzz's interpretation of it. I know that this is an open forum and you can say what you want, but I imagine if mad braddigan knew what was going on, he'd tell you to lay off and let the song speak to her however it may.

I believe this song was written by Chad. And I believe this a more straightforward Dispatch song, its about the Mexican Border. The title is a big hint. This song is about Chad's belief to relax the border. And its also about the persecution of those who make it accross a key line is "You match the description of a criminal crosser." Also, don't freak out when people mention Jesus and Dispatch. Braddigan is very seriously religuous. (listen to Past the Falls). While I don't think that this song is about religion, don't go nuts on people who do think that. The beauty of music is that it can be interpreted differently ESPECIALLY the music of Dispatch.

This songs about how the law is misused by police. If they have a case that needs to be solved they just blame someone even if they have nothing to do with the case. If they think it is you then it is you(You fit the description of a criminal crosser/We believe that he is you and that is your flaw). This song kicks ass...one of my favorite dispatch songs. It carries one of my favorite dispatch quotes...."And this boy he said to me,"Why are you smiling when the ropes around your neck."/I said,"I'll tell ya' boy when i get back." That's phat as shit...

what a catchy song.. and the lyrics are wicked true too.. about how much the authority abuses their privilages and the law itself. i definitely dont htink its about jesus, at all. peace

Thank u scheisse for telling skygrlzz that. I totally agree with u. skygrlzz has said that about like every dispatch song, She is so full of it.

The onle problem with this song is how it messes with people perception of cops jobs

Its still a great song though

skygrlzz has only made one comment - about this song. she couldn't have related other songs to jesus. sorry, misalinus...

tarheellax, i completely agree with you, hence my second comment - misalinus was making a false generalization. my "damn the jesus crap" came across as rather strong, but it's just because every single dispatch song has been connected to jesus by SOMEONE. i fully respect everyone's right to their own opinions about songs (unlike some people i've encountered), and i'm sorry if i came off as sounding intolerant or rude.

it's not about Jesus (like The General) it's about the police abusing authority

Cover art for Open Up lyrics by Dispatch

my first impression of the song is about the police abusing authority like most of you say, but then i don't see how "Why do you smile when the rope's around your neck / I said I tell you boy when I get back" fits into that interpretation. Can anyone explain that?
