Underneath The Weeping Willow Lyrics
I wanna sleep
Underneath the weeping willow
As it cries all night quietly
Its tears all around me
I'll sleep there so soundly
Until I'm allowed finally
To wake and be happy again
To wake and be happy again
Underneath the weeping willow
As it cries all night quietly
Its tears all around me
I'll sleep there so soundly
Until I'm allowed finally
To wake and be happy again
To wake and be happy again

I love this song!
To me it's about someone who needs some time out to sit and wallow in their misery. You know when you just want time to sit and cry and not think about anything else? He's surrounding himself with a kind of shield of tears, using the metaphor of a weeping willow. Then after a while, it'll heal him and he'll feel like he can move on.
the saddest song ever written
i agree with all above (also my number 1 funeral song). i always hear it when i'm relly down... it's sings about a feeling, so depth and strong inside you that's almost imposible to put in words.
someone who just can carry on anymore and stops under this tree, where he sees reflected his feelings (he weeps through the willow) and just wants to sleep peacefully. it sounds kinda funeral, i admit it, but when you're really depressed you just wish to hide yourself till everything works out and you're somehow allowed to finally "wake and be happy again". (also the sleep may be a metaphor about take a break on thinking and suffering all the time, which doesn't leave you even sleep...).
i think you've got the idea. grandaddy's magnus-opus in my opinion
It about crying to get it out of your system i think... but obviously a little more complicated..
Even though crying is one of the saddest activities to partake in...it helps..and it can be enjoyable. Theres just some thing about crying and willows that are so comforting. And just trees in general. I mean.. in so many movies the people run to cry..and where do they go? Thats right ..They run to a tree.
to partly quote somebody above- it's very enjoyable to cry during this song.
This song is absolutely magical. I could listen to it on repeat for an hour and be just as intrigued the last time as i was the first.

This song is my number 1 funeral song. So sad yet it gives you hope in the end and I'm not even religious.
"Until I'm allowed finally To wake and be happy again"
The way he puts it sounds like obligatory grieving. Like how you're expected to cry at a funeral. But he might not be sad...
ps: somehow weeping willows are now my favourite trees, everytime i see one i feel full of peace
