Who Loves The Sun Lyrics

Who loves the sun
Who cares that it makes plants grow
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Who loves the wind
Who cares that it makes breezes
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun

Who loves the rain
Who cares that it makes flowers
Who cares that it makes showers
Since you broke my heart

Who loves the sun
Who cares that it is shining
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Sun
Sun
Sun

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun

It's like the ultimate pessimist anthem.

I kind of disagree that the songwriter himself is being pessimistic here. I think it's more of a tongue-in-cheek message about how some people are only concerned with their own problems when they have a broken heart.

I had never thought that it was a burn on the Beatles but now that you mention it...

I had always thought they were making fun of the Beach Boys for some reason but The Beatles makes much more sense. Love this song, the cough freaks me out and the chorus is so great.

Is that someone coughing half way through??!

yeah they someone coughs! which only adds to the dreadful and so far never repeated pessimism of the song, disguised by the happy beatlesy melody. i adore it.

This song is amazing because the beat throws you off. It's one of the saddest VU songs.

Yes, it is a very pessimist song even though it's a fun melody. It really seems like there is somebody coughing at minute 1:05/06 !

a sunshiny blast of revenge!

This song sounds eerily like the Beatles "Here comes the sun", it seems to me that the entire album "Loaded" is maybe an attack on the Beatles

I disagree with it being an attack. I think it's an attempt at emulation.

It is both an attack and an emulation. The Velvet Underground is basically writing a better version of a Beatles song with the exact opposite meaning to make fun of their lyrical simplicity and to show everyone that they could write that kind of hippy bullshit better than any of the hippy bands ever could

@drgonzothx I have to disagree with both of the claims that this song is an 'attack' or an 'emulation'. While the album Loaded was in conception, Lou Reed was told by Cotillion Records that he needed to take Loaded into the direction of having more radio friendly hits on it. Songs like 'Rock and Roll' and 'Sweet Jane' shined as highlights of this album while other songs like 'Who Loves The Sun' kind of fell below the radar. Lou Reed wasn't 'attacking' or 'emulating' anyone. He was just trying to write more folk inspired, radio friendly songs for Loaded. It...
