Wow, lots of people have alot of crazy ideas about this song. The wall has so many meanings that you can't place just one on it. Generally they didn't write songs about drug use..however within the context of the character it would fit...though to say its about heroin is a little presumptious, as i've never ever heard any references between Floyd and heroin before. I had read what someone else wrote, that Roger Waters hated this song, and didn't want to do it, but he needed another song, so he wrote the lyrics in an hour. So really I don't think you should read to deeply in it. The wall is theatrics reflecting everything from child hood in post ww2 brittian, to pop star fame, to sanity or the lack there of, to roger waters extreme dislike to the audience, to the fragmenting of a band. |

The way I heard the Emily story was that Syd woke up in a forest, not knowing why he was there or how he got there and saw her in the distance between the trees and her name was emily, not really certain if her name was emily or he just thought it was, or maybe it was a hallucination, who knows. |

I've been thinking of the entire heroin connection and realized that the nickname of the drug dealer in the movie trainspotting nick names is mother superior due to the length of his habit. I was wondering if it was used the same in this song. Mayb even John writing about himself. |
