I think the main theme is the guy's insecurity about his ability to have a girl which to him means controlling her. He doesn't even have her(she won't take it from just any guy) he's afraid he's just any guy, but he's already petrified he'll lose her if he could get her.

He is afraid that if she was seeing him but around other men they would show her that he isn't so great (look at all your friend's that she's gonna meet). Gonna implies he doesn't yet have her. He's only confident that his friends are better than he is.

The idiot's best recourse is to hit her and keep her out of public, but that's just pathetic like he is.

Ultimately he is totally insecure and she is outside his ability to control whether he was with her or not.

I don't know if you're right... unless you read that in a bio or something. I see the song as the story of an abusive boyfriend or husband whose girldfriend/wife is gaining too much freedom. It is told from the perspective of the voices in his head who say, "She'll never ask you 'please' again," so "You better hit her."

i agree with Spidery. i say its about a girl who maybe was in some type of abusive relationship? or with a man who wasnt neccessarily good to her. or a guy she broke up with, or the other way around which ever "theres no tears in her eyes"...

This could be an abuser losing his lover to freedom, promiscuity/prostitution, drugs, etc., or just losing the relationship.

This could also be about a D/s relationship in which the dominant is watching his girl repeat this undesirable pattern. He is logically processing the situation and coming to terms with it. She'll never again submit to him, or come back begging his forgiveness (no tears in her eyes, she'll never ask him please again), so what can he do?

If he is to rectify matters, he needs to "hit" her. To "hit" her could be taken as literal, but could also mean to step it up and take care of the situation (or her emotional and physical "needs"). While he may feel naturally compelled to take corrective action, he ultimately realizes that her recidivism is terminal, she is lacking remorse, and that she will never again submit to him (she'll never ask him "please" again). There's nothing he can do about that, so he releases her.

An insecure, abusive boy who's about to lose his promiscuous girlfriend? I don't think she's a prostitute, she's just starting to become more free. I think when he says she's "on her knees" he's forcing her to perform sex acts for him? And when he says there's no tears in her eyes, I think she's gotten used to it and she's stopped caring about what he does because she's had enough of him.
