Click your heals
And feel you come for me
Care free, she's got something big to tell me
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
There's no simple way
To let you know
Funny how she always cried out daddy
I got a big surprise, she said
I'm in trouble now
and it cannot wait
She's ten days late
Boy, your life got complicated
Well I can't wait
To see this through
She's ten days late
Ten days late
Low ride bicycles go cruising by
I laugh
I don't even know why
Talk back at the ocean
Consequence and ozone
Catch a glow
Oh no, baby, oh no no
Give me a minute now
To figure out my state
Oh I know
She's ten days late
And I don't know
Where to take it
But it's still great
Knowing you
She's ten days late
Ten days late
Time has come for you to choose
Baby daddies keep your boo
Many blessings come to you
Baby daddy keep your boo
Your eyes look to me for what to do
I can't lie
I don't know
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
No one's laughing
Now what do I say
I walk away but, oh no
Don't go
At the ocean
Talk back at the ocean
Give me a minute now
To figure out my state
She's ten days late
And I'm never going to fade it
I guess I'll always be
Knowing you
Knowing you
Knowing you
Crawl on bedpost

No one's commented on the phrase "knowing you", think its just a sort of 'goodbye' to his friend(s) as he moves on into parenthood? i don't think hes talking to the girl or the baby to born because the way the song sounds it seems optimistic "Well I can't wait to see this through".

anyhow i got my own fantasy to the song that incorporates the phrase, but whenever I'm listening to music I go on long tangents of winding fantasy so I don't trust my interpretation :D

okay I couldn't contain myself. My interpretation is too fun. There's a passage in the bible that goes:

The mighty man and the warrior The judge and the prophet The elder and the diviner The captain of 50 and the honorable man The counsellor and the expert artisan and the skillful enchanter -Isaiah 3

I picture a boy growing up through these 'phases' of life, and its all because he thought he knocked up his girlfriend so he ran away. In the run he passes through these 'phases' and now that hes back hes discovered she's '10 days late'. Its perfect timing for his return and he'll grow up and become the father as a 'skillful enchanter'. I mean, isn't that the father we all dream we had? lol.

Yea, unless Third Eye Blind happens to be a Christian (or perhaps Jewish?) rock band i know this isn't what they meant :P

Anyhow its dollar drink days at mcDonalds and I had to get this out before I got my large Nestea.

But seriously, who is he saying "knowing you" to, or is someone saying "knowing you" to him?

Oh that Stephan Jenkins. I admire this man, being able to through in a sexually perverted line into a song.

"Funny, how she always cried out daddy"...him and his double meanings, gotta love it.

This situation happened to his good friend....and former drummer i think? The baby that resulted is Stephen's godchild.

Read it straight off cd liner notes....

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
