I think this about foreshadowing the ultimate doom, looming so heavy in the air it's as it's being called forth from the very depths of hell.
To me, the lyrics are about humanity turning a blind eye to our own destructive nature. We willingly destroy the planet that gives us life, dooming countless species to extinction, even to ourselves. We also willingly destroy fellow humans with man-made inventions like fentanyl.
