Smouldering
Bracing for what might begin
Imbibing the bitterness
Snuffing out the light within
Deform and redefine
Emulate and amplify
Shaping what's to come
Feeding on the pain we hide
Flickering out again
Speak your mind
Deliver what you hold/feel inside
Renounce your autonomy
Smouldering
Bracing for what might begin
Imbibing the bitterness
Snuffing out the light within
Deform and redefine
Emulate and amplify
Shaping what's to come
Feeding on the pain we hide
Flickering out again
Speak your mind
Deliver what you hold/feel inside
Renounce your autonomy
Take your place within the hive
Framing the other side
As everything that you despise
Fomenting the dissonance
That seems to be your true desire
Once again into the fire
No more prayers to send
There will be nothing left
Burrowing deeper
Desperate to engage
And we rise to it
Feeding on the hate inside
Blinded by our rage
Hastening the end
Double down and twist the knife
Pretender to the throne
While you mourn another life
And reap what you sow
You'll reap what you sow
Bracing for what might begin
Imbibing the bitterness
Snuffing out the light within
Emulate and amplify
Shaping what's to come
Feeding on the pain we hide
Deliver what you hold/feel inside
Renounce your autonomy
Bracing for what might begin
Imbibing the bitterness
Snuffing out the light within
Emulate and amplify
Shaping what's to come
Feeding on the pain we hide
Deliver what you hold/feel inside
Renounce your autonomy
As everything that you despise
Fomenting the dissonance
That seems to be your true desire
Once again into the fire
There will be nothing left
Desperate to engage
And we rise to it
Feeding on the hate inside
Blinded by our rage
Hastening the end
Pretender to the throne
While you mourn another life
And reap what you sow

Vocalist & guitarist James Lascelles comments of the track: "It is about media empires and the effect they have on wider society – all of us are influenced to some degree, even if we would rather not admit it. Issues that require nuance are presented as binaries and opposing views are made into caricatures – a target for us to rage at that far too often, doesn’t even exist. This is not a new phenomenon by any means but it is one that seems to have been catalysed by the modern landscape of media, the internet and populist politics. As you might be able to tell from the mood of the song, this pisses me off immensely and it was cathartic to vent about it.”
