Back in '79 Lyrics
[Verse 1]
It was back in '79, when we rode the mighty tide
It swept across the world, we came together
We never stood alone wherever we roamed
This legacy of rock will last forever, yeah
[Chorus]
Show me your hands
Show me your hands
Raise up your hands
Deliver me
[Verse 2]
Defenders of the faith, to you this vow we make
When our back's against the wall we'll not surrender
You may be young or old, there's no difference at all
Just raise your glasses high and sing our song
[Chorus]
Show me your hands
Show me your hands
Raise up your hands
Deliver me
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Show me your hands
Show me your hands
Raise up your hands
Deliver me
[Bridge]
It was back in '79, when we rode the mighty tide
The music will go on and never die

Show me your hands

In emphasizing rock fans as being loyal and devoted to the music and culture they love, they refer to them as "defenders of the faith." It reinforces the enduring nature of music and its ability to transcend time and generations with the declaration that "the music will go on and never die," highlighting the everlasting impact and legacy of rock music in shaping identities and connecting people.
To help contribute to the power and unity of rock music, while recording the album in February 2011, the band posted a message to its fans, calling them to visit the band at the studio on the evening of 10 February. Since the band needed a chorus for the track, they decided to offer their fans the chance to be a part of the recording. In the booklet itself, everyone who contributed to the song was credited; Each and every one's name was listed.
